Streaming shows have greater potential to spread virally as social media posts recommending them can link directly to the content. Indeed, word about them can spread so fast that shows which largely escape the attention of mainstream media sometimes sit atop streamers‘ most-watched lists. However this isn’t the only trick that the industry giants have up their sleeves.
As the most popular streaming platform, Netflix is also a magnet for shows about subjects which have already captured the world’s attention. The new entrant in the number one spot on its worldwide top ten list of English-language shows has done precisely that.
Just last week the list was crowned by Ted Danson comedy, A Man on the Inside, a show which would have undoubtedly been a big screen movie in the eighties. With a plot which is reminiscent of the Pink Panther movies, Danson plays Charles Nieuwendyk, a retiree-turned-amateur private investigator who goes undercover at a nursing home in order to find a missing ruby necklace.
