Erik and Lyle Menendez are serving life sentences without the possibility of parole for killing their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez, in 1989. Lyle was 21 and Erik was 18 at the time.
The case has renewed public interest after sexual abuse allegations targeting Jose Menendez emerged.
In October, then-Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón recommended that the brothers be resentenced to 50 years to life, making them immediately eligible for parole due to their age at the time of the offense.
Nathan Hochman took over as district attorney in December after he defeated Gascón in the election. He asked the court to withdraw the motion for resentencing because of „the Menendez brothers‘ ongoing failure to demonstrate full insight and accept full responsibility for their murders.
