“And I was so [nervous].“
Captain America himself just proved he’s a real-life romantic hero.
Chris Evans is revealing sweet new details about how he popped the question to wife Alba Baptista — and it turns out he did it in her native language. While attending the New York City premiere of his new film Materialists on Saturday (June 7), the Marvel alum opened up to The Knot about the moment he asked the Portuguese actress to marry him.
“I proposed to my wife in, she’s Portuguese, so I learned how to say ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese,” Evans shared. “And I was so [nervous], and I had practiced all week! I had practiced it so much that, you know, while her and I, I’d be making breakfast and you, you almost just start saying it out loud, like, ‘Oh god! That’s not just a song that’s stuck in my head. It’s gonna let the cat out of the bag.’”
Despite his preparation, the actor admitted the big moment didn’t exactly go off without a hitch. “I got really nervous when it came time to do it and I actually think I screwed it up, but I still know it!” he added.
