A strike involving thousands of Safeway workers across the state and here in the Bay Area has been averted, at least for now.
Around 25,000 workers at 250 stores were ready to strike Saturday morning, if a contract deal wasn’t reached by midnight.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Union says every Safeway store from Bakersfield, north to the Oregon border could see picket lines this weekend if an agreement isn’t reached with Safeway’s parent company, Albertsons.
