Matthew McConaughey stars in this new drama based on a true story.
No one wants to be trapped in a school bus in the middle of a raging wildfire, but at least the kids in The Lost Bus movie—which opens in select U.S. theaters this weekend—have Matthew McConaughey at the wheel. Anyone who’s seen a Lincoln commercial knows that man can drive.
Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Paul Greengrass (known for The Bourne movies, United 93, Captain Phillips, and more), with a screenplay written by Greengrass and Brad Ingelsby, The Lost Bus is based on the 2021 book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire by Lizzie Johnson. The film tells the true story of school bus driver Kevin McKay (McConaughey) and school teacher Mary Ludwig (America Ferrera), who heroically navigated a bus full of children through the 2018 Camp Fire, aka the deadliest wildfire in California history.
Also starring Yul Vazquez and Ashlie Atkinson, The Lost Bus sounds like it’s going to be a very emotional watch on the big screen.
