We all saw the influx of migrants steadily grow, communities “selected” for shelter sites, overflow crowds sleeping in Logan Airport, with the meter running all the while.
As it turns out, there’s a lot we didn’t know, especially about how all that money($2 billion+) was spent. Months after State Auditor Diane DiZoglio’s office found that Gov. Maura Healey’s administration approved “improper and unlawful” no-bid contracts for food and transportation services in the millions of dollars as part of the state’s emergency shelter system, top Republicans are addressing reforms to how emergency contracts are reviewed and used.
We could have used this oversight about $2 billion ago, but better late than never.
The Senate Republican Caucus says it has filed “comprehensive legislation” that aims to place time limits on contracts and increase reviews, while expediting the public disclosure of procurements.
