Netflix closes the year out with a number of gifts for you, dear viewer, including the new Knives Out movie, the finale of Stranger Things, and more.
The end of the year brings a panoply of new things to Netflix. Not only does the last episode of Stranger Things air on Christmas, but there are also hot new movies, well-loved series, and more. We’ve gone through the month’s new content, watched the trailers, read the reviews, and picked out the must-see material, along with a complete listing of everything coming. Here’s our guide to the hottest new series and movies on the streaming service in December.Jay Kelly (Dec. 5)
Is there an actor in the modern world as confounding as Adam Sandler? He makes both brilliant movies and terribly stupid ones, and seems just as happy doing either one. In Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, which snagged a Golden Lion nomination at Venice this year, Sandler is the manager of the titular actor (played by George Clooney), and when the pair head off for a trip across Europe, things get emotionally complex and uncomfortable in numerous ways.

IMDb Rating: 6.6/10Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (Dec. 12)
I give Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig my personal permission to make as many Knives Out movies as they want. Craig’s absurd Detective Benoit Blanc is a modern-day Poirot, using deductive skill and wild personal charm to unravel twisted conspiracies of menace and murder. Wake Up Dead Man brings him into the world of religion, when a small-town priest is killed and he has to team up with his apprentice to clear his name.

Cast: Daniel Craig, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin

Rating: TV-MA
IMDb Rating: 7.9/10The Great Flood (Dec. 19)
I realize that thinking about the apocalypse over the holidays isn’t necessarily in the spirit of the season, but Korean thriller The Great Flood is receiving near-universal acclaim.
