At the [email protected] 2018 Global Press Conference (GPC) keynote event, Acer Predator Helios 500 and the Acer Predator Helios 300 Special Edition gaming laptops were unveiled. The company also announced the Nitro 50 gaming PC, Nitro RG0 and Nitro VG0 gaming monitors, Predator Orion 3000 and Predator Orion 5000 gaming PCs, Chromebook Spin 15, Chromebook 15, Chromebook Tab 10 and a bunch of gaming accessories at the press event.
The Acer Predator Helios 300 Special Edition is a newer colour variant of the already available Predator Helios 300. The new variant has a white body with gold colour trims. The Acer Predator Helios 500, however, is a completely new high-end gaming laptop. It features a 17.3-inch G-Sync display, up to Intel Core i9, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 GPU, upgradeable storage, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, 2.1 speakers, Killer gigabit ethernet and Wi-Fi, and Waves NX 360° audio through headphones. There will also be a variant with AMD Ryzen 7 2700 GPU, AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 GPU, and FreeSync display.
The Acer Predator Helios 500 gaming laptop has a 17.3-inch IPS Quad-HD or Full-HD screen with Nvidia G-Sync for up to 144Hz refresh rate and flicker-free gaming. It uses the Intel’s 8th Gen. Core processors (as high as Core i9 8950HK), up to Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 GPU, configurable up to 64GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM (standard 16GB RAM), 256GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 1TB HDD, and Intel Optane memory for SSD and HDD caching.
I/O consists of two Thunderbolt 3 ports, three USB 3.1 Type-A ports, a DisplayPort 1.4, and an HDMI 1.4 port. It has 2.1 channel speakers with Acer TrueHarmony and Waves MAXXAudio tuning software. It has Killer DoubleShot Pro for gigabit Wi-Fi and ethernet as well as Bluetooth wireless connectivity. The gaming laptop runs Windows 10 operating system out of the box. For improved cooling, it use Acer’s Dual Aeroblade 3D fans, five heat pipes, two intakes, and four exhausts. There’s an LED-backlit RGB keyboard with 16.8 million colours and precision touchpad as well.
The Acer Predator Helios 500 will be available in North America with a starting price of $1,999 from June. In Europe, the gaming laptop will be available for €1,999 and up. In the UK, it will be available with a starting price of £1,799. The company hasn’t announced the pricing of the Predator Helios 500 for the Indian market yet.
