Originally down for a Fall/Autumn PC release (which Google informs me starts on September 23), the series‘ desktop introduction comes earlier than planned. „This is the first time we’ve taken a mainline Monster Hunter game to PC,“ producer Ryozo Tsujimoto tells us in a written Q&A, „so we wanted to take the time to get it right and do the proper research and preparation.“
In his beginner’s primer, published on the day of its console launch, our Steven explored why people love Monster Hunter so damn much. Capcom tells us Monster Hunter: World has since become the developer’s biggest-selling game, having shifted eight million copies globally in less than six months.
Here’s the official skinny:
In Monster Hunter: World, follow the journey of the elder dragons as they begin their once a decade migration across the sea to a land known as the New World in an event referred to by inhabitants as the Elder Crossing. As part of the Guild’s Research Commission, players must embark on a grand journey to this massive, mysterious land and uncover the secrets behind this phenomenon. As hunters set out on their quests, the Commission’s sights are set on Zorah Magdaros, a colossal elder dragon that rises from the earth like a volcano.
Capcom explains collaborations and „other additional content“ that’s since made its way to the console variant post-launch will „be coming to PC for free at a later date.“ This includes monsters Deviljho and Lunastra, says Tsujimoto.
We also know that visually Monster Hunter: World „will have parity“ with the console version at launch, but that could improve with free future updates. There don’t seem to be any plans for mod support at launch, but we do know that the game should run on some fairly old graphics cards. Check out the Monster Hunter: World system requirements to see how your machine measures up.
Monster Hunter: World is due on PC via Steam on August 9,2018.
