President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were scheduled to meet with Queen Elizabeth II Friday at Windsor Castle (the same castle where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were married), but people couldn’t help but notice that the Queen not-so-discreetly checked her watch while she stood outside the castle alone, making many wonder if he was running late.
„Queen Elizabeth II is there,“ royal reporter Patricia Treble live-tweeted from the scene. „But where is the guest? Yeah, still in his helicopter, leaving the 92-year-old monarch to wait, and wait. Oh dear, she just looked at her watch. The Queen does NOT like tardiness.“
The fact of the matter is that the Queen of England stood on that stage alone, for… a while, which many noted is highly unusual. It was the watch-glance heard round the world.
But some royal reporters, including Victoria Arbiter, were quick to point out that he likely was not late.
Once the Trumps arrived they were greeted with a smile from the queen, so whether she was upset about the wait-time or not, she hid it. Later, Afterward, the monarch took the Trumps to inspect the guards where Trump stepped in front of the queen — which is a royal faux pas.

Apparently Trump has been wanting to meet with Queen Elizabeth for a while. Mary Jo Jacobi, a former aide to President Ronald Reagan, told CNBC’s „Squawk Box Europe,“ that „[Trump] has already won, he is meeting with the queen and his lifelong wish has been meeting with the Her Majesty so from his personal perspective it is a win already.“
100,000 protestors flooded London’s Trafalgar Square to object to the president’s visit.
According to CBS, it was the largest weekday protest the city has seen in 15 years. Other protestors waited outside Windsor Castle for the president to arrive. Protestors also flew a giant „Trump baby“ balloon over the city.
We may never know if Trump was actually late, or if the queen has a habit of checking her watch, but we should point out that it’s interesting how no other members of the royal family appeared at the visit with the US president.
