We shouldn’t expect a new generation of Xbox games consoles, but Microsoft isn’t giving us any clue as to what exactly it has planned for the announcement. Is it just new Xbox hardware and game bundles for the holidays or something a little more surprising?
Just as we’re all settling down for a summer of gaming followed by the build-up to the always-busy fall game release schedule, Microsoft has decided to throw a spanner in the works. That’s because on August 21, „all-new Xbox hardware and accessories“ will be unveiled. What on earth could that mean?
The announcement was made via Major Nelson’s blog as part of a wider announcement regarding Gamescom attendance in Cologne, Germany this August. Microsoft is set to turn up with 25 games to show off at the Xbox Booth, an Xbox Official Gear Shop, and the Xbox Fanfest being held on August 23.
The media’s focus will be on August 21, though, and a special episode of Inside Xbox, which will be broadcast live from the Xbox Booth. As Major Nelson states, the episode will include, „lots of news, all-new Xbox hardware and accessories, and features on upcoming titles that we can’t wait to tell you more about and perhaps even a few surprises!“
Chances are, the hardware being referred to is a number of new Xbox One S and Xbox One X bundles. It’s always good to have some new bundles to sell in time for the holidays including the latest games, and Gamescom is well-timed to reveal them. There’s also the new accessories to consider, which hopefully goes beyond introducing yet more Xbox One controller options.
Right now, your guess as to what „all-new hardware“ means is as good as mine. Bigger hard drives, different case colors, an Xbox One X slim? Your best guesses in the comments, please!
