At this point, just about everyone knows what the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 8 looks like. We’ve seen several leaked images of the device via different channels. Recently, we saw the Galaxy Note 9 after it was subject to a series of drop tests. Today we have with us a video that not only shows us what the Galaxy Note 9 looks like, but also tell us its exact specifications. It was easy to extrapolate what they would be based on the Galaxy S9, but a confirmation is always nice.
As you can see in the video above. The Galaxy Note 9 appears to be Black. The packaging is similar to the one we saw on the Galaxy S9 Plus, as are the contents of the box. Samsung is one of the few companies that still includes headphones with their flagships, and the ones that come with the Note 9 appear to be the same pair of AKG-tuned headphones that came with the Galaxy S9 and S9+. Interestingly, there’s a micro USB to USB Type C adaptor in the box as well. This is the first time that we’ve seen one in a retail package. Maybe it’s only available with the T-Mobile variant of the Note 9, but we’ll know soon enough.
Much like last year, the Galaxy Note 9 appears to have specifications that are more or less identical to the Galaxy S9. The display is confirmed to be a 6.3-inch super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1440×2960 pixels with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 (~529 PPI density). It is unlikely that the panel will be any different from the one of the S9+ as it is arguably one of the best in the world at the moment. The construction also appears to be the same as the Galaxy S9, with two layers of glass encompassing the metal body.
The cameras on the Galaxy Note 9 were a mystery up until now. It’s no longer a mystery, though, as the packaging indicates. We knew it would be a dual-camera, and now we know its megapixel count. The primary camera is a dual 12+12-megapixels. Both lenses have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The secondary sensor is very likely a telephoto lens, like the one we’ve seen on the Galaxy S9 Plus. The secondary camera is 8-megapixels with features such as portrait mode etc. enabled.
Initially, it was speculated that the Galaxy Note 9 would run Samsung’s latest Exynos 9820 SoC. It is unusual for two flagships released in the same year to run different SoCs and we may very well see it make its debut with the Galaxy S10. The Note 9 will very likely run the Exynos 9810/Snapdragon 845 chip, depending on the region. The base variant will feature 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Rumours indicate that the maxed out version could have as much as 512GB of internal memory. Additional storage can be added via microSD card.
Like all previous Galaxy Note devices, the Note 9 will come with a stylus, or as Samsung likes to call it, the S-Pen. This time around, the S-pen will be Bluetooth-enabled and should bring some new features, hopefully. The battery is expected to be around 4,000mAh mark. Other features include 802.11 b/g/n/ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, a heart rate sensor, an iris scanner, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a USB Type C port.
Considering its flagship status, the Galaxy Note 9 will definitely burn a hole in your pocket. The base variant may start at around Rs. 65,000 and the maxed out variant can go up to Rs. 80,000. Let’s hope this only burns a figurative hole in your pocket as opposed to a literal hole like one of its predecessors.
