Treyarch reveals that the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer beta second weekend will feature a ’secret mode‘ as well as several other fun additions for players.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer beta is currently taking place on PS4, giving players several days to test out the hotly anticipated shooter. However, this first round of beta testing is just the start of the fun. Black Ops 4 developer Treyarch is now teasing some key changes for when the beta testing makes its return.
Following the first PS4-only round of beta testing for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the second weekend of beta testing will take place on PC, PS4, and Xbox One over the weekend of August 10. In a post on Reddit, Treyarch teased that players can expect to play a “secret new mode that has been kept under tight wraps.” Other new additions for the second beta weekend include “a few new items,” “new XP events,” “new level caps,” and even a new map that some eagle-eyed fans may have spotted in the beta trailer.
While these new additions will (hopefully) prove to be wildly entertaining, many Call of Duty fans are looking at the multiplayer beta from a more practical point of view. So far, the beta has been instrumental in improving the game for release.
In that Reddit post, Treyarch highlights several tweaks it has introduced via a live update, including “tuning the effectiveness of Scorestreaks that are underperforming” such as making Lightning Strike put out more damage per shell. As several fans noted in the comments, Call of Duty‘s Scorestreaks are one of the biggest draws to the game’s multiplayer modes. This means that the feedback and chances Treyarch makes as a result could go a long way towards making a better game.
Treyarch is also planning some changes to the game’s Gear (a perk-like) system, following complaints that the Armor option is overpowered. Treyarch has already responded to the complaints and in this Reddit thread, the developer acknowledges that this is a “hot topic.” The developer also promises to detail some “early tweaks” that are in the works, though these will be disclosed in a separate, dedicated thread.
The beta for this year’s Call of Duty game is all the more important because it makes the decision to ditch the story campaign. While that has gone down well with those who mostly enjoy the series for its multiplayer content, the pressure is on Treyarch to make the multiplayer as strong as possible. The beta seems to be going a long way towards making that happen but fans won’t know exactly how useful all of their feedback has been until launch.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release on Windows PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 12,2018.
