An aide to President Trump who attended a conference frequently attended by white nationalists has reportedly left the White House.
Darren Beattie, a speechwriter and policy aide for Trump, reportedly left the White House after CNN inquired about his speaking appearance at the 2016 H. L. Mencken Club Conference. He was listed as giving a speech at that year’s conference titled „The Intelligentsia and the Right.“
Beattie confirmed to CNN that he gave the speech in 2016.
„I said nothing objectionable and stand by my remarks completely,“ he told CNN in an email. „It was the honor of my life to serve in the Trump Administration. I love President Trump, who is a fearless American hero, and continue to support him one hundred percent. I have no further comment.“
A number of white nationalists have reportedly attended the conference over the years including Richard Spencer and Peter Brimelow.
CNN reported that the White House asked the network to delay the stories for „several days“ last week and declined to comment on when Beattie left his role at the White House. Beattie’s White House email address, CNN reported, worked until late Friday evening but was no longer active by Saturday.
“Mr. Beattie no longer works at the White House,“ White House spokesman Hogan Gidley told CNN. „We don’t comment on personnel matters.“
The White House reportedly didn’t tell CNN when Beattie left the White House, but CNN reported that his email address worked until late Friday night and was no longer active by Saturday.
