Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Monday said he is willing to testify about the sexual assault allegations against him before the Senate Judiciary Committee to “defend my integrity.”
“I am willing to talk to the Senate Judiciary Committee in any way the Committee deems appropriate to refute this false allegation, from 36 years ago, and defend my integrity,” Kavanaugh said in a statement.
He said until Christine Blasey Ford came forward in an interview with the Washington Post on Sunday in which she claimed a drunken Kavanaugh pinned her on a bed and groped her during a high school party in 1982, he had no idea who was making the claims.
“This is a completely false allegation. I have never done anything like what the accuser describes – to her or to anyone,” he said in the statement.
Earlier, Monday Debra Katz, the lawyer for Ford, told NBC’s “Today” show that her client was willing to appear before the Senate panel to publicly air her claims .
“She is willing to do whatever it takes to get her story forth,” Katz said.
Democrats and some Republicans have called for the confirmation process be delayed.
The panel had scheduled a vote on Kavanaugh on Thursday.
