Saudi officials initially said that Khashoggi left the consulate in Istanbul unharmed after he arrived on Oct. 2 to pick up paperwork so he could marry his fiancee.
Then on Saturday, Saudi officials said Khashoggi was accidentally strangled after getting into a “brawl” with Saudi security officials.
Saudi Arabia has arrested 18 people and fired another five top officials as part of its investigation.
