Recently, Apple announced a major update to its Apple Watch line up with the launch of the Watch Series 4. The new hardware came with the watchOS 5.1 operating system, which recently started rolling out to older generation Apple Watch models. However, Apple has now reportedly pulled back the update for those devices following complaints on social media platforms. Many Apple Watch users claim to have complained that their devices got bricked.
As reported by CNET, Apple Watch Series 4 users are facing the issue after updating to watchOS 5.1, causing endless boot loop and showing the Apple logo for hours. “Same. I’ve been stuck at the logo for hours. Apple says I’ll have to ship it to them for repair. No perfect Activity month for me,” said one of the Watch Series 4 users on Reddit.
However, Apple was swift to pull back the update and gave an official statement to CNET. “Due to a small number of Apple Watch customers experiencing an issue while installing watchOS 5.1 today, we’ve pulled back the software update as a precaution. Any customers impacted should contact AppleCare, but no action is required if the update installed successfully. We are working on a fix for an upcoming software update,” said Apple.
It has not yet mentioned when the fixed version will commence rolling out to all the Apple Watch devices.
One of the highlighting feature of the watchOS 5.1 is the ‘Fall Detection’. This feature can detect falls, send recorded message to emergency services with user’s location and other information. Users also have to option to talk to the emergency services directly. The recorded message is for situations when a person falls and is unconscious.
