Devil May Cry 5 will feature a nod to another famous Capcom series, Mega Man, with one of Nero’s Devil Breakers modeled after Mega Man’s Mega Buster weapon.
Capcom recently revealed some new details about the upcoming Devil May Cry 5, which included an explanation of Nero’s weapons, the Devil Breakers. One of the new weapon modifications available for the Devil Breakers in Devil May Cry 5 involves a hero from another famous series produced by the publisher: Mega Man.
In a video posted on the official Xbox YouTube channel, Devil May Cry 5 producer Matt Walker and director Hideaki Itsuno showcased the game’s upcoming “Void Mode” in which players will be able to practice combos with different weapons and customization options. The weapons of focus throughout the video is Nero’s assortment of Devil Breakers – one of which is Mega Man’s Mega Buster.
Nero’s Devil Breakers are essentially modifiable cybernetic arms. Currently, a total of eight have been revealed to the public, four of which (including the Mega Buster) will only be available through purchasing the deluxe edition of the game. The video goes on further to show that while using the Mega Buster, Nero adopts Mega Man’s trademark animations and transitions, including a very similar jump, run, evade and even an oddly familiar death animation.
It is always fun to see publishers and developers acknowledge their other successful works in a particular game regardless of whether the reference is overt or not. It will also be interesting to see what sort of other additions related to this crossover the developers decide to add in the game, especially with over-the-top tone the Devil May Cry series is known for. If all the game’s available trailers are anything to go by – including the one featuring the weapon that seems to be an odd combination of a motorcycle and a chainsaw – the upcoming game will not be veering far from this established theme.
At the very least, if players don’t like the Mega Man addition, they’ll have seven other Devil Busters to choose from.
Devil May Cry 5 is set to be released on May 8,2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
