„Hi. I sing/act out all kinds of stories. You should cum to my shows.“
Jill Scott took her performance to a new level on Monday when she simulated performing oral sex on her microphone. As Scott shared her routine for nearly a minute, her fans cheered and yelled. Scott quickly started trending on Twitter for her intimate moment, and later addressed the controversial conversation surrounding her artistic choice.
Scott used the viral fuel to advertise for her shows. “Hi. I sing/act out all kinds of stories. You should cum to my shows,” Scott tweeted. “After a Jill Scott show, most people get splendidly laid by whoever they came with. #iftheydontFitup #stopfrontinusuckdicktoo They also usually go on 2happier, more productive, focused, wealthy lives.”
After the video surfaced, many male Twitter users noted they’d like to participate in a “meet and greet” with Scott at an upcoming show.
Another noted this is nothing new for Scott. The user noted her song “Crown Royal,” which has obviously sex-influenced lyrics. “Why y’all acting like y’all didn’t know Jill Scott the freak of the week have you heard Crown Royal?”
Scott, 46, began her music career in 2000 with her first album release Who Is Jill Scott: Words and Sounds Vol. 1. Since, she’s released seven additional albums. Her latest collection, By Popular Demand, was released this year.
The musician also acts, and is most known for her appearances in Why Did I Get Married and Why Did I Get Married Too, according to the Internet Movie Database. According to the site, she’s current filming a new version of the First Wives Club, and there is an untitled TV Movie surrounding her life in planning.
From her time in the industry, Scott has noted she’s nothing but authentic. „At this age, at this time in my life, I just don’t feel the importance of being a fraud. Of being fake to myself, in any way, shape or form,“ Scott explained to WPGC’s Poet in July. „It just doesn’t suit me, it just doesn’t benefit me. I’ve learned that and just stayed myself.“
She also explained the way to do that is to be self-aware in a 2015 interview with NPR. “One of the biggest aspects of being a woman, being an adult, thoroughly and authentically, is holding yourself accountable and going through this album I am definitely holding myself accountable,” Scott said. “I’m looking at what’s been done but also what part I had to play in my own joy or demise.”
