Bungie reveals the new pinnacle weapon that players will be able to earn in Destiny 2’s competitive playlist for Season 5, and it’s sure to inspire a lot of debate.
Next week, Destiny 2 will officially kick off Season 5, which is called the Season of the Forge, and with it will come new pursuits for players. While Bungie has yet to reveal everything about Season 5, the developer has detailed some of the pinnacle weapons that players can chase from November until March. Specifically, there will be a new Crucible pinnacle weapon called The Mountaintop that is sure to split the community.
As revealed in this week’s Bungie update, The Mountaintop is a kinetic grenade launcher that can be deadly in the right hands. Bungie wanted to introduce The Mountaintop because it felt that there aren’t enough options for grenade launchers in the primary slot, outside of the Militia’s Birthright that drops from the Lake of Shadows Nightfall. A kinetic grenade launcher affords Crucible players more variety in their loadouts, and in the right hands The Mountaintop sounds quite deadly.
The Mountaintop’s key perk is called Micro-Missile and it sends the projectile in a straight line instead of an arc. Moreover, the projectile moves very fast and it detonates on impact, instead of bouncing off the environment. Based on those perks, the grenade launcher certainly sounds like it will be an efficient killing machine, assuming that it is a one-hit kill on contact.
In addition to perk details on The Mountaintop, Bungie also revealed how to obtain it. For the first time, the pinnacle Competitive weapon doesn’t require players to complete all of its steps in Destiny 2’s Competitive playlist, although they will still need to reach certain rank thresholds. Here are the full steps to getting The Mountaintop grenade launcher:
No doubt, offering a grenade launcher as the pinnacle weapon for Competitive PvP is sure to be a contentious decision. While The Mountaintop sounds plenty strong, only time will tell whether the weapon is worth the effort (that’s a lot of grenade launcher kills). Not to mention, whether it will be worth trading away a shotgun or strong primary weapon that has more ammo.
