US Army Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan Farmer has been identified as one of the US service members killed in a suicide bombing attack in Syria Wednesday.

US Army Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan Farmer has been identified as one of the US service members killed in a suicide bombing attack in Syria Wednesday.
Farmer joined the Army in 2005. He was the married father of four children.
Four weeks after Pres. Donald Trump said ISIS had been defeated and he was ordering the 2,000 troops in Syria to begin packing for home, an ISIS-affiliated suicide bomber’s attack killed four in an explosion in Manbij in northern Syria; two U. S. service members, a Department of Defense civilian and a private contractor, both working with Operation Inherent Resolve.
Here’s what you need to know:

Farmer, 37, was an Army Green Beret from Boynton Beach, Florida. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
The Military Times reported “Farmer joined the Army on March 30,2005. He graduated in 2007 from the Special Forces Qualification Course as an engineer sergeant and was assigned to 5th Group, where he remained throughout his career.”
According to the DoD and reports, Farmer was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007 and 2009. He was also part of Operation New Dawn in August 2010;, Operation Enduring Freedom from January of 2012 was been part of Operation Inherent Resolve since January of 2018.
He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and several Army Commendation Medals.
Farmer’s military education included “One Station Unit Training, the Basic Airborne Course, Survival Evasion Resistance Escape Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, the Advanced Special Operations Technical Course, the Advanced Leader’s Course, Special Forces Warrant Officer Candidate School, the Special Forces Warrant Officer Basic Course, and the Warrant Officer Technical and Tactical Certification Course.”

An early report from Aleppo Media said the attack occurred near the “Princes Palace restaurant next to the girls ‘ school in the center of Manbij, east of Aleppo.”
