It’s been a long time coming, but fans of Game of Thrones — and George R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels on which the show is based — will finally get to see how the story ends, as the show begins its final season Sunday, April 14. Season 7 brought the conflict between the major factions to a head, with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) invading Westeros, battling the Lannisters and forming a tenuous alliance with Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), King in the North. The living eventually came to an armistice, however, as the army of the dead amassed to march on the seven kingdoms. Now, with the Wall having fallen and the dead marching south, can the remaining power players in Westeros work together to fend them off, or will greed and betrayal doom humanity? Although the later seasons of GoT have lacked the wit and depth the show once had, it’s still the most spectacular show on television, and given that this is the final batch of episodes, anything could happen.
