PG&E will also pay a maximum $3.5 million fine and an extra $500,000 to cover the cost of the investigation.
PG&E pleaded guilty on Tuesday to involuntary manslaughter for its role in sparking the devastating 2018 Northern California Camp Fire that killed 84 people, resolving the criminal investigation into the fire as PG&E faces declining public confidence, bankruptcy and scrutiny from state officials.
“Our equipment started that fire,“ said CEO Bill Johnson said during the hearing where he entered the guilty pleas, according to the Associated Press.
