The Huskies will face Nebraska in the opening round of the Fayetteville Regional.
The Northeastern Huskies crashed their way into the big diamond dance instead of hoping for an invitation. The Huskies earned an automatic berth in the Division 1 NCAA College Baseball tournament by capturing the first CAA title in program history on Sunday at Wilmington, N.C. The Huskies got an at-large bid in 2018, their last tip to the NCAA tournament. “It was different feeling than last time when we weren’t sure if our name was going to be called,” said NU coach Mike Glavine. “This time we knew we were going to get called and it was just a question of where we are going. “Naturally it’s a little different feeling but it’s done and now we have to prep for the weekend.” The Huskies, along with family members, friends and boosters, assembled at Matthews Arena on Monday to learn which of the 16 regional sites was in their future. The group didn’t have to wait long because Northeastern was the third team in the field of 64 to learn its destination in the double-elimination tournament. The NCAA selection committee didn’t do the Huskies any favors by handing them the No.3 seed in the Fayetteville, Ark.
