The US government has taken Meta to court and imposed a fine for violating the Fair Housing Act for implementing discriminatory ad targeting system based on their „race, color, religion, and more“.
The US government has sued Meta in the New York City for blocking certain users from seeing online real-estate ads based on their nationality, race, religion, sex, and marital status. The complaint says that Meta violated America’s Fair Housing Act (FHA) that protects people looking to buy or rent properties from discrimination. According to the act, it is illegal for homeowners to refuse to sell or rent their houses or advertise homes to specific demographics, and to evict tenants based on their demographics as well.
