The 96th Academy Awards, held annually to honor the film industry and those in front of and behind the camera, was held at the Ovation Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on March 10, 2024. Late-night star Jimmy Kimmel returned to host the show for a fourth time, while presenters included past Oscar winners like Mahershala Ali, Nicolas Cage, Jamie Lee Curtis, Brendan Fraser, Lupita Nyong’o, Jessica Lange, and more.
Christopher Nolan’s war thriller Oppenheimer swept the show’s major categories, winning Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., and more. Poor Things snagged four Oscar trophies, including for Emma Stone as Best Actress, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design. The Holdovers star Da’Vine Joy Randolph took home the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
