Later this year, EU users can pick new default apps for phone calls, messaging, and more. Plus, Apple will let them delete the App Store, Messages, Photos, Camera, and Safari apps.
Apple iPhone users in the European Union will soon have greater control over which apps open by default rather than being forced to use Apple’s built-in options.
Later this year, EU users will be able to select default apps for phone calls, messaging, password managers, keyboards, and call spam filters. By spring 2025, they’ll also be able to pick defaults for navigation and translation apps.
Apple will add a Default Apps section in the Settings menu with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 where all these defaults can be managed.
Meanwhile, Apple will make a larger range of its built-in apps deletable by the end of the year, including the App Store, Messages, Photos, Camera, and Safari apps.
