The smash-happy buyer who went viral for paying $4,000 to take a hammer to a Taylor Swift guitar is a Donald Trump supporter who swears he just did it for “a joke” — and is using it to raise thousands more for a kids’ charity.
Gary Estes, 67, was filmed picking up the guitar emblazoned with the “Shake It Off” singer’s face at an auction last Saturday in Waxahachie, just outside Dallas — and then immediately smashing it up, to raucous cheers.
Estes came forward and confirmed speculation that he was a Trump supporter reacting to Swift’s recent endorsement of Trump’s rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Yes, you can connect the dots there,” Estes told NBC News on Tuesday when asked if he was a fan of the 45th president.
