Get ready for the holidays with a feast of new streaming content from HBO and its sister networks this month.
There’s a slew of streaming content hitting Max this month, including some interesting new series that you won’t find elsewhere. Most notable is a Dune prequel that’s been in the works for a while, along with another Watchmen adaptation, lots of home renovation shows, documentaries on Ted Turner and James Carville, and much more. Here are our picks for the best new movies and shows arriving on the streaming service in November 2024.Invincible Fight Girl (Nov. 2)
The new Adult Swim series from director Juston Gordon-Montgomery tells the tale of Andy, a young girl who thirsts to become the greatest professional wrestler of all time. But to climb that mountain, she’ll have to overcome obstacles both in and out of the ring. Gordon-Montgomery is behind the very successful DC Super Hero Girls, so it’s not surprising the network is giving him his own passion project.Dune: Prophecy (Nov. 17)
Opinions on Frank Herbert (and son Brian)’s Dune sequels and prequels are mixed (to put it mildly), but we’re still tentatively excited for the original HBO series Dune: Prophecy. Based on the 2012 novel, it serves as a prequel set 10,000 years before the film, with sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen founding the Bene Gesserit order. The budget looks high, and at just six episodes, it doesn’t feel like too much of a commitment.Get Millie Black(Nov. 25)
Tamara Lawrance stars as ex-Scotland Yard detective Millie Black, who returns home to Kingston, Jamaica only to get embroiled in a missing persons case that turns out to be much more complicated than it seems. Created by writer Marlon James, who wrote about Jamaica brilliantly in his Booker Prize-winning A Brief History Of Seven Killings, this could be a sleeper.
