Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd threw a pitch behind Sano in retaliation for JaCoby Jones getting hit earlier in the April 22 game at Target Field
PHOENIX — The commissioner’s office has officially closed the book on the incident between the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins last month that began when JaCoby Jones was hit in the face by a pitch.
A one-game suspension for Twins third baseman Miguel Sano was upheld on appeal. Sano will sit out Tuesday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox.
Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd threw a pitch behind Sano in retaliation for Jones getting hit earlier in the April 22 game at Target Field.
Sano took a step toward the mound and pointed his bat at Boyd and shoved Tigers catcher James McCann, who had stepped in front of him.
Benches cleared, but no punches were thrown.
The league said Sano was suspended for „aggressive actions.“ Boyd was fined, but not suspended. McCann was not punished.
Jones was placed on the disabled list with a lacerated lip. He was recently optioned to Triple-A Toledo after completing a rehab assignment there.
