A 31-year-old Seal Beach resident died in a crash in Long Beach, police said Sunday.
His identity is being withheld by the Los Angeles County Coroner pending notification of family, said Long Beach Police Department Sgt. Brad Johnson.
The victim was a passenger in a 2000 Toyota Avalon that hit a utility pole at Clark Avenue and Eagle Street about 2: 40 a.m. on Saturday, May 20.
When officers arrived on scene, they discovered two passengers inside the vehicle, Johnson said.
Officers pulled an unconscious man out of the car and administered CPR until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, who determined the passenger had died.
The other passenger, a 24-year-old Long Beach resident, suffered a broken leg. He was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital.
Police found a man, identified by a witness as the driver, walking away from the scene a few blocks north of the accident. The 24-year-old Lakewood resident was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, Johnson said.
The driver faces multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony hit and run and felony driving under the influence.
