A trademark filing isn’t much to go off of, but it could give us clues about a new line of handsets. That could be the case with the latest filing from Huawei, applying for the ‚P20‘ moniker.
Earlier this year, Huawei announced the P10 and P10 Plus at Mobile World Congress. The handset is the successor to last year’s P9 and P9 Plus, so it comes as no surprise that the firm will probably continue the popular line next year. Now, it appears that a new trademark filing has appeared with Huawei filing for the ‚P20‘ name.
Sadly, there isn’t much else in terms of information, but if this is indeed something Huawei has filed, it could indicate that a new line of handsets that could arrive sometime in the future. While there are lots of rumors floating about, if previous years are any indication, the successor in the P-line most likely won’t see a release this year and will instead be reserved for 2018.
Although nothing has been solidified, there is the high chance that a new Kirin 970 SoC will make its way into the Mate 10 and next P-series models. There aren’t many details about the chip at the moment, but a source earlier stated that it will be built on 10nm technology, and will also be utilizing four ARM Cortex-A73 cores plus four ARM Cortex-A53 cores.
There could be quite some time before any of this news comes to light in an official form, but it’s good to know that Huawei is seemingly hard at work on its next handsets.
