New York – On October 6, global music star Katy Perry headlined Madison Square Garden in New York City, for a great turnout of pop fans. She opened with „Witness,“ and it was immediately followed by „Roulette,“ with giant dice on the stage, as well as the popular tunes „Dark Horse“ and „Chained to the Rhythm.“ The second part of her show featured the powerhouse hits, such as „Teenage Dream,“ which is this journalist’s all-time favorite Katy Perry tune, as well as the rocking „Hot N Cold,“ where she played the electric guitar, with two giant flamingos on the stage. „Should we go all the way?“ she asked. „Should we go back to a time and place where I had all of my collagen? Some people don’t understand. Let’s just do it.“ Her entire cast of back-up dancers, and background vocalists, were extremely talented. She had the whole venue chanting „T. G. I. F.“ and she broke into an infectious performance of „Last Friday Night (T. G. I. F.).“ „C’mon, y’all,“ she said. „Tonight, in Manhattan.“ „I know this is the East Coast, but I’m from the West Coast,“ she said, prior to praising the girls in California, and segued into „California Gurls,“ which featured a cameo from Left Shark (from her Super Bowl performance). „Welcome to the Witness World Tour. You guys ready for tonight?“ she asked, with excitement, and the answer was a resounding „yes“ from her New York fan-base. „We love touring. We just started this tour. Has anyone seen one of my shows before?“ she asked, and the venue went nuts. A large pink telephone emerged from the stage, which featured her mom. „This is not pre-recorded. She can say anything, which is terrifying,“ Perry admitted. She put her mom on speakerphone with „12,000 people in New York City,“ and after an outfit change, she sang the feisty „I Kissed a Girl.“ „Bon Appétit“ was incorporated as a medley with Janet Jackson’s „What Have You Done For Me Lately,“ and a crowd favorite tune was „Part of Me.“ The final act of her show featured a basketball game prior to „Swish Swish,“ and it closed on an empowering note with „Roar,“ prior to returning to the stage for her „Firework“ performance as an encore, which she performed on a large palm. „Let’s sing this last song together,“ she said. „Firework“ featured strong vocals from Perry, as well as confetti and pyrotechnics towards the end. The Verdict Overall, Katy Perry rocked Madison Square Garden as part of her „Witness“ Tour. The new arrangements to her songs were neat and refreshing. Perry is an artist who always manages to reinvent herself musically. She commanded the stage the entire night. The audience was well aware that they were in the presence of the „Contemporary Queen of Pop.“ Her live show earned an A rating. This was her second show at The Garden (her first taking place on October 2), as part of her „Witness“ Tour. It was a phenomenal live production from start to finish.
