According to a new report, Samsung has received samples from a handful of companies so that it can make screen-embedded fingerprint readers a reality on the next Galaxy Note handset.
It’s no secret – manufacturers tried to take things to the next level this year by putting a fingerprint reader underneath smartphone displays and failed to bring it to retail. So it comes as no surprise hearing the Samsung is trying once again and will most likely introduce the feature on its upcoming Galaxy Note in 2018.
According to the report, which comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with KGI Securities, three companies are currently courting Samsung to supply the firm with such fingerprint reader technology. Synaptics, BeyondEyes, and subsidiary Samsung LSI all have their foot in the door so to speak and have shipped samples to the firm, with the two latter companies being favorites. Samsung wants to make things as efficient as possible and wants to utilize the OLED screen itself to illuminate the sensor.
What’s more interesting is that it will apparently take Samsung quite some time to perfect it, since there is no mention of this technology being attempted for the Galaxy S9. Currently, the Galaxy Note8 and Galaxy S8 are highly regarded devices, but the main criticism has been with its bad fingerprint sensor placement. Hopefully, the firm can make this new technology a reality and in time for its next release.
