JACKSON, MI – A suspect in the shooting death of a teen outside Reed Manor Apartments three months ago has been arrested and charged.
Hassan Moore, 21, was arraigned on one count each of open murder and felony firearms Tuesday, Oct. 10, according to a stament from the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Moore is accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old Morris McBride Jr. in the early morning hours of July 19 outside one of the apartment buildings.
He is being held in the Jackson County Jail without bond.
A preliminary examination has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Oct. 25, before District Judge Joseph Filip.
McBride was found lying on the ground behind the F building at Reed Manor, 301 Steward Ave., after officers were called to the area for a report of shots fired, police said.
McBride suffered a single gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, police said.
Moore was identified as a suspect during the murder investigation, Director of Police and Fire Services Elmer Hitt said. He was in jail for an unrelated charge at the time his arrest warrant for the murder was authorized, he said.
