Xiaomi has launched its first smart speaker ever on its crowdfunding platform. Its called the Yeelight Voice Assistant, and comes at a price of just $30.
Xiaomi has finally entered the smart speaker race, with its latest product called the Yeelight Voice Assistant. The new smart speaker from the Xiaomi subsidiary looks very similar to the Amazon Echo Dot. It’s priced just under $30 and competes directly with the likes of Google Home Mini and Apple Homepod.
The Xiaomi Yeelight Voice Assistant comes in a white colored cylindrical form factor. The speaker bears control buttons flanked by machine drilled speaker holes on the top. On the inside, the Yeelight Voice Assistant comes with a single 2-Watt speaker and a set of six microphones. At the heart of the speaker lies a 64-bit enabled 1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex A53 chip, 256MB RAM, and similar sized internal memory.
Yeelight claims that its smart speakers come with an advanced wake-up algorithm which helps turn on the device from a 5-meter range. Additionally, it comes with an Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) and Beamforming technology for reducing echo. The Mi Yeelight Voice Assistant comes with various connectivity features including a 2.4GHz/5GHz Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE.
The all-new speaker from the Xiaomi subsidiary comes with Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant on board. This doesn’t come as a surprise considering that Xiaomi went into a partnership with Microsoft last year. In fact, the Xiaomi Mi MIX was the first phone to come with the Redmond based firm’s intelligent voice assistant.
The Yeelight Voice Assistant helps bind together the entire Xiaomi smart home ecosystem. Almost all Mi Smart Home accessories can be controlled directly using the speaker. These include smart LED bulb, ceiling lights and much more. Xiaomi has revealed that Yeelight Voice Assistant will soon start supporting third part smart home devices.
Xiaomi has already commenced preorders for the new smart speaker on its crowdsourcing platform. The Yeelight Voice Assistant smart speaker is priced at 199 Yuan which is approximately $30 or Rs 1,950. The Chinese OEM plans to start shipping the device across starting January 31.
