Users are urged to update their systems immediately
4MLinux founder Zbigniew Konojacki informs Softpedia on the availability of a new kernel version for all of the supported 4MLinux and TheSSS operating system series, Linux kernel 4.9.75 LTS, which includes patches against both Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities that put billions of devices at risk of attacks .
„Linux kernel 4.9.75 is available for all supported 4MLinux and TheSSS versions to fix the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities,“ says Zbigniew Konojacki in the announcement for 4MLinux 23.2, the second point release of the 4MLinux operating system, which adds various up-to-date components and other small bug fixes.
As with any minor point release, 4MLinux 23.2 updates the built-in 4MLinux LAMP (Linux, Apache, MariaDB, and PHP) Server component to include Linux kernel 4.9.75 LTS, Apache 2.4.29, MariaDB 10.2.11, and PHP 7.0.26, but also restores good sound quality for Chromium and fixes HTTPS streaming for VLC Media Player.
Additionally, the 4MLinux 23.2 release comes with the latest versions of various popular apps and, as expected, all the newest security fixes. Therefore, all existing 4MLinux 23 users are urged to update their installations as soon as possible by running the „zk update“ command in the terminal emulator.
The update process is fully automatic, so you won’t have to do anything else besides rebooting your computer after the new kernel version was installed. Otherwise, you won’t be patched against Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities. Newcomers, can download the 4MLinux 23.2 live ISO image from our website for new deployments.
