The South Korean electronics brand LG is rumoured to announce its flagship smartphones for 2018 – LG G7 and G7+ – sometime in May 2018. Meanwhile, we had already learnt that the brand has changed its smartphone launching strategy, and plans to unveil the handsets as and when needed.
While the launch date of the G7 isn’t known yet, some believe that the devices could be officially unveiled in April 2018. This information was revealed by ETNews, and the publication has also tipped the pricing of the device. The report iterates that the G7 will cost KRW 100,000 (approximately, Rs. 6,000) more than its predecessor, the LG G6
The LG G7 is said to feature an iPhone X-style screen notch at the centre of the display’s top part. It is also rumoured to feature the same A. I-assisted camera functionality that’s present in the LG V30S ThinQ and the LG V30S+ ThinQ. The LG G7 was rumoured to be unveiled at MWC 2018, but the company released two new variants of the LG V30S. However, it doesn’t mean that the South Korean brand didn’t bring the G7 to the expo. Apparently, the phone was showcased behind the closed doors to its partners. A person familiar with the device had shared the video and specifications.
As per these information that is available right now, the LG G7 is will feature a taller, 6-inch screen with 19:9 aspect ratio, which is different from the LG G6 with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display of the G7 is supposed to feature QHD+ resolution (3120×1440 pixels), resulting in a pixel density of a whopping 900ppi. Furthermore, it is being believed that the smartphone will use Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line mobile platform, the Snapdragon 845. The chipset could be paired with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. There could be 64GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot.
The LG G7 is said to boot Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with LG’s customised user interface design. The imaging part could be handled by dual-16MP camera sensor, optical image stabilisation, phase-detection autofocus, ƒ/1.6 aperture, and 4K video recording. At the front, the self-portrait camera is said to use an 8MP sensor, but there’s no information about its aperture or focussing mechanism. As far as other aspects of the phone go, the G7 could feature a quad-DAC, a 3.5mm headphone port, a rear-facing fingerprint sensor, and a 3000mAh battery.
Interestingly, the report obtained from ETNews also mentions a few details regarding LG’s flagship smartphone for late 2018, the LG V40. It suggests that the Korean brand might unveil the G7S or V40 sometime in November 2018, which is two to three months later than what the company launches its F series phone. However, the chances of the LG V40 getting delayed are higher since even the G7 hasn’t gone official yet.
