NEW DELHI: ZTE, the Chinese smartphone maker has already showcased its Axon M, whose USP was the on-screen fingerprint sensor. Based on recent rumours and reports, now other big brands may soon be following the trend. A new report reveals that Samsung may jump the on-screen fingerprint bandwagon later this year with the next-gen Galaxy Note smartphone, tipped as the Galaxy Note 9.
Citing its ‘sources’, The Korean Herald mentions that Samsung Display has made two-three prototypes for the Samsung Electronics division for a display panel that has an in-built fingerprint sensor. This indirectly means that the South Korean tech is close to a final solution for its future smartphones.
Also mentioned is that Samsung is taking extra time in deciding the concept for Note 9 due to this particular display panel. The concept is likely to be finalised by this month. The report adds that the Samsung may launch the device in late August and has enough time to work on the particular tech even if it is at a nascent stage right now.
Samsung has been rumoured to bring the on-screen fingerprint sensor ever since last year. The tech was said to arrive with Samsung Galaxy S8. One of the potential competitors of the Galaxy S8, OnePlus 6 is being tipped to feature an on-screen fingerprint sensor. If true, the company may have an edge over Samsung and Apple in the market by a few months.
Last year in October, a report talked about how the company has already started working on improving the S-Pen in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note device.
It was mentioned that the team at Samsung was evaluating the current model, Galaxy Note 8, before considering how to approach the development of the Galaxy Note 9. The firm may also give us a glimpse of its rumoured foldable smartphone.
