WhatsApp is now making it possible for you to let your contacts know when you have changed your phone number.
NEW DELHI: WhatsApp is now making it possible for you to let your contacts know when you have changed your phone number. The feature was found by WABetainfo website and is said to show up on Android beta app version 2.18.97. The particular feature will be coming soon to iOS and Windows Phone, adds the report.
On Android, the company has improved the ‘Change Number’ feature this time to let you choose if want to notify everyone about your new number or select users. The screenshot posted on the website shows the feature description “You can notify your contacts about your new number. You groups will be notified regardless.” This is followed by three options – All contacts, Contacts I have chats with, and Custom. Blocked numbers won’t be notified.
These options will be shown only after the user goes into the
Settings > Account and ‘Change Number’ option.
Once the migration process is done, all the user’s shared messages in the old chat will be shown in the new chat.
WhatsApp recently made several changes to its platform. Earlier this month it increased the time window to delete a message. The limit was extended to 4096 seconds, meaning 68 minutes and 16 seconds. Prior to this, users only had 7 minutes or 420 seconds to delete a message.
Android beta WhatsApp users also got locked voice recording feature. This shows up when you tap and hold on the mic. Once tapped, you will see a new UI wherein you would have to drag the icon upwards to lock voice recording. In future WhatsApp may also show us the size of the sticker pack that you are about to download.
In another change, WhatsApp was seen testing the Group Descriptions feature. As the name suggests, this feature enables users to add up to 500 characters’ description for any group.
