Apart from the release date, PC Gamer has revealed that Battle for Azeroth will be preceded by a pre-patch to “help bridge the gap between it and Legion”. This pre-patch will act as a prologue and will include events where Alliance players retake the Undercity (formerly Lordaeron) while Horde players burn Teldrassil. Just by the looks of its prologue, World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth looks promising.
Game director Ion Hazzikostas revealed during the preview event that Battle for Azeroth will bring a twist to how World of Warcraft expansions work. This time you won’t get a new class to play as but you’ll get class variations to the existing ones. If you have prepurchased the expansion, you can already unlock the Lightforged Draenei, void Elves, Nightborne, and Highmountain Tauren. There are even more coming when the game releases, with some of them having been already datamined.
Furthermore, he revealed that some information about Warfront, a 20-player PVE mode that emulates Warcraft’s RTS gameplay. Players will have to gather resources, build a base, and lead soldiers in an assault against an NPC fortress occupied by the opposing faction. According to PC Gamer, players on the opposing faction must stockpile enough resources like crafting materials, gold, and Azerite in order to unlock their Warfront. This process will be region locked and as soon as players have the required amount of resources they’ll have the opportunity to assault the opposing faction’s bases. We’re glad to see World of Warcraft paying respects to its past by giving the game some RTS elements.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth is set for release on August 14th and pre-orders are already available. The game will be playable exclusively through Battle.net. Can this expansion win a place on our best WoW expansions list?
