The Los Angeles world premiere will be held Thursday. ‘Wonder Woman’ hits theaters June 2.
In the wake of the suicide bombing outside Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester, England, Warner Bros. has canceled its flashy London debut for Wonder Woman .
“Our thoughts are with those affected by the recent tragedy in the U. K., ” Warner Bros. spokesman Jack Horner told USA TODAY in a statement. “In light of the current situation, we will not be proceeding with our plans for the Wonder Woman premiere and junket activities in London.”
The U. K. premiere had been scheduled for May 31.
Wonder Woman, which stars Gal Gadot in the title role and Chris Pine as her spy sidekick Steve Trevor, hits theaters June 2. It is the first superhero film in the current DC Films franchise to be headlined by a woman.
Monday’s attack killed 22 people, including children (one as young as eight) and teenagers exiting the concert and parents waiting to pick them up. The bombing injured scores more.
Extra security measures have followed Prime Minister Theresa May’s decision to raise the country’s terror threat level from “severe” to “critical, ” the highest it’s been since 2007, meaning that further attacks could be imminent. Almost 1,000 military personnel rolled out across the United Kingdom to protect public sites and key landmarks, major airports and transportation hubs and large concert venues.
Grande’s team confirmed Wednesday her European tour through June 5 will be canceled, resuming in Paris June 7.
Wonder Woman will hold its world premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday.
