The Biden administration announced Monday a plan to regulate a class of contaminants often characterized as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down naturally, which have been linked to several severe and even deadly diseases. “This is a really bold set of actions for a big problem,” EPA administrator Michael Regan told the Washington Post. “This strategy really lays out a series of concrete and ambitious actions to protect people. There are concrete steps that we are taking that move this issue forward in a very aggressive way.” $10 billion. That’s the amount of funding, via grants, in a bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, which the Senate passed in early August after months of tense negotiations, includes to address contaminants, including PFAS.
