vivo has started teasing its upcoming S50 series, and this one is about the vivo S50 Pro mini. The brand has confirmed on Weibo that this compact device will be among the first to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip.
vivo also says the phone will use LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, the same setup found on its top-tier flagships. The brand has further revealed that all S50 models will come with 3D ultrasonic fingerprint 2.0 and an eye-protection display focused on high brightness and clarity.
The company has already locked in a launch date, confirming that the vivo S50 series will be unveiled on December 15 in the home country. Ahead of the event, both the S50 and S50 Pro mini have shown up in China Telecom’s product database, which gives us a clearer picture of what to expect.
The regular vivo S50 is listed with a 6.59-inch display at 2750 × 1260 resolution, a 50MP selfie camera, and a triple rear camera setup made up of 50MP + 50MP + 8MP sensors. It measures 157.52 × 74.33 × 7.59 mm, weighs 197g, and packs a 6,500mAh battery. The phone is powered by the SM8635 chipset, better known as the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.
The vivo S50 Pro mini takes a different approach. It’s smaller at 150.83 × 71.76 × 8.10 mm and lighter at 192g, but still manages to fit a 6.31-inch display with 2640 × 1216 resolution. Camera hardware remains the same, including a 50MP front camera and the same triple rear setup. Interestingly, vivo hasn’t compromised on battery size either—the Pro mini is also listed with a 6,500mAh cell.
More details, including pricing and regional availability, should surface at the launch event tomorrow.

Oops: Prior to Bondi Beach Attack, USC Coach Suggests Mass Shootings Only in U.S.

USC coach Lindsay Gottlieb responded to the Brown University shooting by blasting the U.S. as the only country in which such things happen.
USC women’s basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb responded to the Brown University shooting by blasting the U.S. as the only country in which such things happen, and she did this hours before Australia’s Bondi Beach attack.
The New York Times sports publication, The Athletic, noted that USC was defeated by No. 1-ranked UConn 79-51, and Gottlieb opened her post-game comments by talking about the Brown University attack.
Gottlieb, who played at Brown University for two seasons in the 1990s, said, “It doesn’t need to be this way.”
She continued, “Sending thoughts and prayers to my teammates who have kids there. To the parents who have to worry about their children. We’re the only country that lives this way. The college football cycle has been in the news a million times, and are we going to report about this? Like, it’s the guns. We’re the only country that lives this way.”
Shortly after Gottlieb made her claims, two terrorists in stringently gun-controlled Australia opened fire on Sydney’s Bondi Beach, killing at least 15 innocents, according to CNN.
Australia has some of the strictest gun controls in the world, yet a 50-year-old legal gun owner and his 24-year-old son were reportedly able to carry out a vicious attack that resulted in numerous deaths in Australia’s Jewish community.

пошкодження пломб чи індикаторів на лічильнику;
зірвані або пошкоджені таври на пломбах;
пошкодження облікових приладів вимірювальної техніки;
втручання в налаштування лічильників, щоб змінити показники;

Kindle’s new ask this book feature lets readers get answers without leaving the page

Ask this Book brings contextual, spoiler-free Q&A to the Kindle iOS app, helping readers understand plots and characters while staying immersed.
Amazon brings in-book Q&A with Ask this Book on Kindle for iOS
Amazon is trying to solve the biggest headache of reading a long novel: forgetting who everyone is but being too scared to Google it. The company just launched Ask this Book, a new tool for the Kindle iOS app in the U.S. that acts like a spoiler-free guide, keeping you in the story without breaking your flow.
What Happened: Kindle Gets an In-Book AI Reading Assistant
If you are reading on an iPhone, the Kindle app just got a lot smarter. Amazon quietly rolled out Ask this Book, which lets you query the text directly. Instead of closing the app to search the web, you can now highlight a confusing passage or pop open a menu to ask about plot points, character backstories, or specific themes.
The killer feature here is the “spoiler guard.” Amazon claims the AI only knows what you have read up to that exact page. It won’t accidentally tell you that the friendly side character is actually the villain. It functions more like a reading buddy sitting next to you than a search engine, offering instant context for thousands of best-selling titles so you don’t have to leave the app.
You don’t even have to come up with the questions yourself; the app suggests relevant ones automatically, though you can type in your own specific confusion if you need to.
Why This Matters, Why You Should Care, and What’s Next
We have all been there. You are 300 pages deep, a character name pops up, and you have zero memory of who they are. Usually, looking them up online is a gamble—one wrong click and the ending is ruined. This update fixes that anxiety. It keeps the help inside the book, letting you stay immersed instead of doom-scrolling through a wiki page.
It pairs perfectly with another new feature called Recaps. Think of Recaps as the “Previously on…” segment of a TV show, but for books. If you are picking up a sequel after a year-long break, it gives you a quick refresher on the story arcs and characters so you aren’t lost. That’s already available on Kindle devices and iOS for supported series.
For anyone who reads multiple books at once or takes long breaks between chapters, these tools are a game-changer. They remove the friction of “getting back into it.”
Looking ahead, Amazon isn’t keeping this exclusive to iPhones forever. Plans are already in motion to bring Ask this Book to Android phones and actual Kindle e-readers next year. It’s a clear signal that Amazon wants the Kindle to be more than just a screen – it wants it to be an active companion that ensures you actually finish the books you start.

Fallout: New Vegas modders are having a field day restoring cut content found in the recently leaked beta

0

Marilyn Modroe.
In November a beta build of Fallout: New Vegas that is a whole two gigabytes bigger than the release version was uncovered on an Xbox 360 dev kit. It contained locations, textures, and even whole NPCs that were ultimately cut to get the finished game down to a more workable size.
But what was too much New Vegas for an Xbox 360 disc is not nearly enough for a heavily modded playthrough on PC, and the Fallout modding community has spent weeks going over the beta with a fine-toothed comb to restore some of the most interesting things that were lost.
For starters, there’s an NPC who made it to the deck of playing cards in the Collector’s Edition, yet was absent from the finished game. Marilyn, the second of Mr. House’s securitron lady friends, is even referenced by Veronica in the finished game, so it’s a relief to finally have her return. There are actually a few mods bringing Marilyn back, but I went with the straightforward Marilyn Restored for my current loadout.
On the subject of Mr. House, the skeevy Steve Buscemi-looking original depiction of the character is also back thanks to Restored Beta Mr House, and if you really want to go all the way his Lucky 38 casino was supposed to have its own bespoke trash cans—you can see them in the intro cutscene—and finally you can experience true peace of mind on that front with Lucky 38 Trash Cans Restored.
In terms of locations, Beta Goodsprings Restored and Prospector Saloon Full Neon Sign Restored give the starter town back some of its pizazz, and the Restored Nipton Train Station is one of those things it just makes sense to have.
For smaller changes, here’s the Original (red) Tribal Armor Restored, and Clean Tops Casino Interior. One of my favorite tiny tweaks is Beta Posters Restored, which brings back early versions of the posters for various casino performers, as well as making the Sunset Sarsaparilla poster a little more suggestive than the final version ended up being. Now this is what modding is all about.

Asus ROG Falcata

0

The Asus ROG Falcata is a supremely comfortable, extensively adjustable ergonomic split keyboard. It will please gamers in particular, as well as anyone seeking typing comfort and willing to invest in it.
When selecting an ergonomic keyboard, comfort should, of course, be your top priority. The Asus ROG Falcata ($419.99) is a wireless keyboard with a split-body design, comprising halves that can be used attached (like any ordinary keyboard) or spread out separately, depending on how your hands are feeling at the moment. This maximizes comfort by allowing your arms to spread wider than they could with a traditional keyboard. The asking price is steep, but the Falcata offers a lot in return (besides a comfortable typing experience), including variable key actuations and Rapid Trigger capabilities made possible by magnetic switches. The keyboard also comes with a set of accessories that further enhance the comfort level. All of this makes it an Editors’ Choice winner and our top pick for split ergonomic keyboards.Design: Split Down the Middle
The Asus ROG Falcata comes in a fairly large box in order to accommodate its large wrist rests. Without the rests and with the halves attached to each other, the board measures 1.5 by 12.9 by 5 inches (HWD). This makes the Falcata slightly smaller than the similarly designed Keychron Q11 we reviewed in 2023. It’s slightly lighter, too, at 2.13 pounds compared with the Q11’s 2.61 pounds.
Each half of the keyboard has its own battery, which Asus estimates can power the keyboard for up to 200 hours if the per-key adjustable RGB backlighting is turned off. In testing, our review unit’s battery lasted for several days (with the RGB lighting turned on) without needing a charge.
The stock switches are ROG HFX V2s, pre-lubed magnetic switches with a 49-gram actuation force. The switches feel nice and springy, and similar to other linear (i.e. non-tactile) switches we’ve tested in the past. If you’re not a fan of these switches, the keyboard is hot-swappable with other magnetic options. The Falcata only comes with the HFX V2s, and Asus offers no option to buy a bare frame, so tinkerers who like to customize every aspect of their boards may want to look elsewhere.
The left half of the Falcata has two USB-C ports, a volume roller, and a dial for activating the Rapid Trigger mode. With this mode enabled, the keyboard will recognize when a new key is pressed and immediately prioritize it over the last key input pressed. In gameplay, this means your character would move at the exact moment you hit a new key, instead of waiting for the last key press to finish registering.
One of the USB ports on the left half, labeled “Link”, is for connecting the halves (you can’t connect them wirelessly to each other), while the other is for charging the Falcata or using a hardwired connection to your PC. The right half has a toggle for selecting among Bluetooth, wired, and the 2.4GHz wireless connection options. You can store the dongle for the 2.4GHz connection when you’re not using it in a cubby on the right half, in roughly the same spot as on the Asus ROG Azoth X.Unboxing and Setup: All Accessories Included
In the box, you’ll find the standard accoutrements typically included with a modern mechanical keyboard, among them a combo keycap/switch puller, a USB-C cable, and one extra keycap (a Control key, intended to replace the Microsoft Copilot-branded one). You’ll also find some additional accessories and tools to make the typing experience more comfortable.
These include wrist rests that attach to the keyboard halves using the included hexagonal screws. (The box contents also include an Allen key for tightening them.) The screws make for a rock-solid connection, but the attached rests also add a little over 3 inches of depth to each half’s profile, which means you gain extra comfort at the expense of desktop space. Ultimately, I opted to keep the wrist rests attached, as my desk isn’t too cluttered.
The wrist rests have an extra spot to attach some screw-on feet, which are also included. These feet (pairs of two at three different heights) are meant to create an angled curve similar to that found in many ergonomic keyboards, like the Logitech Ergo K860. But where the K860’s curve is locked in by the frame’s sculpt, these feet allow for different curvature levels to best fit the desired angle of your hands.
One minor nitpick: Asus offers no storage solution (other than the box, if you keep it) for the accessories if you decide not to use them. The eight screw-on feet are easily misplaced, and the wrist rest pads are large and cumbersome. You’ll have to create some dedicated desk storage space if you’re not planning to use the accessories.
Clutter aside, it’s very easy to get acclimated to the Falcata. I find the learning curve for most ergonomic keyboards to be quite challenging. But whether its halves are combined or split, the Falcata’s keys are easy to hit with muscle memory, which helped me adjust to the new layout quickly. A 30-second Monkeytype test resulted in 61 words per minute, which is slightly slower than my average but faster than I was able to type on any other ergonomic keyboard I’ve tested so far.Gear Link Control Utility: No Download Required
Asus ROG peripherals have been using a downloadable utility called Armoury Crate for a few years, but the latest devices are instead compatible with a new web-based utility called Gear Link.
While Gear Link is still in beta, we found no issues using it to customize the Falcata. We were even prompted to download a new firmware update automatically when we navigated to the Gear Link site. We weren’t able to adjust the keyboard in Armoury Crate.
Gear Link allows you to do everything you normally would through Armoury Crate. You can adjust the LED backlighting, remap keys, or assign custom actuation points. While Gear Link doesn’t do anything we haven’t seen before, it’s nice to know you can save storage space by using it instead of downloading an app.
