Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin Tyler Robinson was “full of hate” in the days before the shooting, according to a family friend.
Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin Tyler Robinson was “full of hate” in the days before the shooting, according to a family friend, as authorities revealed the 22-year-old had confessed to the assassination and had been turned in by a relative.
Bullets found in the chamber of the rifle reportedly used by Robinson included apparent left-wing slogans such as “Hey fascist! Catch!” and another referencing “Oh, Bella Ciao!” a popular Italian anti-fascist song.
“We got him,” declared Utah Gov. Spencer Cox as he opened Friday’s news conference, where he was joined by FBI Director Kash Patel, finally bringing a 33-hour manhunt to a close.

FBI running 'same playbook' as Boston Marathon bombing in Kirk killer manhunt, retired agent explains

FBI withheld suspect’s name in Kirk killing investigation following same strategy used in Boston Marathon bombing to protect case integrity and public safety.
President Donald Trump on Friday said that a suspect in the Charlie Kirk assassination had been captured, ending a tense two-day manhunt after the FBI had circulated video and images of the suspect but withheld his name.
Jason Pack, a retired FBI supervisory special agent, told Fox News Digital that the strategy was intentional — designed to protect both the investigation and public safety — and it mirrored the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing probe.
Pack said withholding the suspect’s identity can help generate stronger public tips by focusing attention on confirmed images rather than unverified names.
“You need biometrics, records and independent confirmation before you hang a name on a suspect. That protects the public and the case”, Pack said. “Same playbook we used in Boston. Show the public what you are certain about to trigger quality tips and hold what is not yet courtroom-ready.”
Pack said withholding a name is crucial until investigators have a positive ID that meets a prosecutable threshold and until all notification steps are handled.
The FBI also withheld names during the Boston Marathon bombing investigation, when the Tsarnaev brothers were first known through images, and in the 2020 Nashville Christmas Day bombing, when DNA testing was used to confirm the suspect’s identity before authorities made an announcement.
“In Nashville, we had the person’s ID and suspected who he was a couple of days before”, Pack said. “But we wanted to make sure through DNA and forensic testing that it was the person and not someone whose wallet had been stolen. So we had to wait for confirmation at least initially.”
Authorities said Kirk’s killer wore Converse sneakers, which drew widespread attention in surveillance footage.
“Footwear alone does not define tradecraft”, Pack said. “Some offenders choose non-tactical shoes to blend on sidewalks, move quietly, or to misdirect. It could be comfort, availability, or deliberate disguise. Investigators will weigh gait, wear patterns and outsole marks against any scene impressions, not just the brand.”
A $100,000 reward for information on the killer was announced as law enforcement sought the public’s help.
Pack explained that reward figures are not set according to a rigid formula — they are adjusted depending on the level of threat to the community, the urgency of the case and the funding available from law enforcement and partner agencies.
In this case, with a gunman at large after a high-profile political assassination, officials opted for a high figure up front to generate leads quickly, he said.
“There was a lot of pressure on law enforcement”, Pack said. “They wanted to get it right.”

3 reasons why I'm not upgrading to iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 on day one

0

Apple’s next-gen iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 operating systems land on September 15, but you won’t find me updating on day one – here’s why.
Hot off the heels of Apple’s big iPhone 17 series keynote, we have confirmation that iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 are releasing to the public on September 15. Launching alongside macOS 26, watchOS 26, and visionOS 26, these next-generation operating systems are set to debut with an all-new ‘ Liquid Glass’ design language, several major app updates, and, in the case of the iPad, a re-engineered window management system.
While I’m fairly eager to download and install macOS 26 on my 24-inch iMac next week, I’m coy about updating my iPhone 15 Pro and my iPad mini 6 to their respective platform releases. I’m normally an early adopter of new software updates, but, this time around, I think I’ll be sitting out the initial hype in favor of a smoother upgrade experience once the dust has settled in a few weeks.
Here are three reasons why I’ve decided to hold off on updating to Apple’s latest-and-greatest operating systems — at least for the short-to-medium-term future. 1
Liquid Glass is a work in progress

Apple’s new software design language is still rough around the edges

For the most part, I’m a fan of Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language. The added sense of material depth, the reactive and more playful animations, and the advanced reflectivity are a breath of fresh air in the software world, while at the same time harkening back to the good old days of Microsoft’s Windows Vista and 7 releases on PC.
However, not everything is sunshine and rainbows, even in a climate as warm and Mediterranean as that of Cupertino’s. The fact of the matter is that, like with other broad-stroke software redesigns before it, Liquid Glass is an active work in progress. Early visibility concerns relating to poor user interface contrast have been addressed in successive beta releases, but some elements still feel like they need some further tweaking and smoothing out.
As with iOS 7 before it, which was ambitious and yet flawed in initial execution, I imagine Apple will continue to iron out the rougher edges of Liquid Glass in subsequent updates to come. I reckon that the longer I wait before jumping onto the Liquid Glass bandwagon, the more refined and pleasant the experience will be when I do eventually perform the upgrade. 2
Battery life is a concern

All those UI reflections and refractions come at a cost

Another concern I have with both iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 is to do with battery life. Apple’s new platforms are filled with dynamic glass-like reflective and refractive properties, which are technically very impressive, but they almost certainly consume more battery than the traditional gaussian blur effect used in iOS 18 and iPadOS 26.
Many a beta tester has commented on poor battery endurance post update, though this too has appeared to be improving as new beta releases have been seeded out by Apple. If major software updates from previous years are to go by, then it’s likely that a number of further efficiency optimizations will be implemented post-launch, leaving me in no rush to hit the update button on day one. 3
I’ll miss Slide Over too much

iPad window management will never be the same

iPadOS 26 is a major leap forward for iPad, introducing key features that make Apple’s tablet more Mac-like than ever before. Alongside an improved cursor, a better Files app, and a dedicated Menu Bar, the company has entirely rearchitected its windowing system in order to offer a more flexible end-user experience.
Apple’s new window management system is rather excellent — not only does it allow for much more granular resizing and repositioning of active application windows, but it works on more iPad models than ever before, including the pint-sized iPad mini. Unfortunately, this transition process has resulted in one casualty: the removal of the Slide Over function I’ve come to rely on in recent years.
Slide Over allows you to create a separate carousel of iPhone-sized app windows that can be manipulated, stashed off-screen, and placed on top of other full-screen apps at any time. I find Slide Over exceptionally useful for quick-access to the calculator, my Philips Hue smart light controller, as well as chat threads. As much as I want to reap the benefits of PC-grade window management on my iPad mini, I also don’t want to forfeit Slide Over in the process.

Nintendo Announces ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Coming April 2026

Actor Chris Pratt will return to voice the beloved plumber.
Nintendo announced today that its animated 2023 smash hit Super Mario Bros. Movie will indeed get a sequel: In a Nintendo Switch Direct live stream, the video game company revealed that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be coming to the big screen as soon as next spring.
The announcement was preceded by classic artwork featuring the mustachioed plumber before Nintendo game director Shigeru Miyamoto opened the show, revealing a first look at the upcoming sequel.
In an accompanying trailer, we see Mario napping under a tree as the camera glides down a river, ultimately rising to show the Mushroom Kingdom, where we see a stained glass portrait of Princess Peach. The camera then shifts focus toward the stars, giving fans a glimpse of the film’s logo.
The film marks another collaboration between Nintendo and animation studio Illumination. Miyamoto teased that the film will feature Mario and pals’ adventures in space, adding that the movie will serve as the “main event” for the game series’ 40th anniversary. The film’s co-producer, Chris Meledandri, Illumination founder and CEO, also hyped up the studio’s second team up with Nintendo.
“As we celebrate Mario‘s 40th anniversary, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the four decades of creativity, imagination, and adventure that Mario has brought to life for fans across generations and around the world. From its groundbreaking world-building to its iconic characters and unforgettable music, the Super Mario Bros. have left a lasting impact on the very fabric of our culture,” Meledandri said.
“All of us at Illumination feel so fortunate to continue our collaboration with Nintendo as we expand the life of Mario in movies,” he added.
“And while The Super Mario Galaxy games are the core inspiration for our story, this next film holds surprises for fans of every Mario era,” Meledandri teased.
Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath will direct The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and the film will see the return of Chris Pratt as Mario, Ana Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
According to Nintendo’s official press release, additional characters and voice cast members will be announced at a later date. Miyamoto closed out The Super Mario Galaxy Movie announcement by assuring fans that he would continue to contribute to the film’s production.
The announcement came shortly after internet sleuths caught wind that NBC and Universal had registered a trademark for “Super Mario Galaxy,” which gaming outlets reported may be for the film days before Nintendo announced it would have its Direct on September 10.
Doubling down on the Mario-led Direct, Nintendo also announced that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 remakes will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 2.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will release on April 3, 2026, in the US and in Japan on April 24, 2026.

Some iPhone 17 models shipping has already slipped to October

0

If that’s any sign of how popular Apple’s new phones are, we have a clear winner.
It’s pre-order day for all the iPhone 17 models, and everyone who has managed to snag one early enough should be very excited. For everyone else, it’s time to see how long it will take for a new iPhone 17, 17 Pro, or iPhone Air to arrive, and some estimates have already started slipping.
The longest delays we’re already seeing are for the shipping of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The estimated delivery date for most configurations is between October 6 and October 13. The Deep Blue color appear to be a little more available, with some configurations available for delivery after September 24. However, there’s no option for the largest iPhone 17 model to be delivered on the release date.

Meanwhile, the rest of the lineup appears to be widely available. The estimated delivery for all combinations of storage and colors of the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone Air, and the vanilla iPhone 17 is September 19.
That may mean Apple is just doing a better job
We’re often compelled to see the pre-order shipping dates as a signal of how well or badly different iPhone models are selling. However, that’s not the best way to gauge the interest in the different models. There’s a chance that Apple did a good job with the supply of most of the iPhone 17 models, which is why their shipping dates are stable. So, the slipping shipping dates of the iPhone 17 Pro Max might be a signal that Apple has fewer units available. It might also mean that everyone wants a giant orange iPhone, but we’ll be able to say for sure in a few weeks. That’s not the first time Apple’s most expensive iPhone turned out to be the most desired. Honestly, I can’t decide between the orange 17 Pro Max and 17 Pro, too. Apparently, many people have decided, so whatever I end up choosing, I may need to wait.

Some of the reaction videos to Charlie Kirk’s assassination have been plain startling, denigrating the idea of taking the moral high ground and expressing sympathy for the man’s widow and children
The FBI hasn’t caught the killer: So far, the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Kash Patel has struggled to find the man who shot and killed Charlie Kirk. They’ve caught and released several suspects, giving false starts about motive and details uncovered at the scene. News broke this morning that a third suspect is in custody, but we have very little detail so far about whether this one is the guy.
For example, “an early bulletin circulated widely among law enforcement officials said investigators found ammunition engraved with expressions of ‘transgender and anti-fascist ideology’ inside the rifle that authorities believe was used in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk”, reported The Wall Street Journal yesterday. “But some officials later Thursday cautioned against reaching conclusions based on the internal report.” (“The bulletin said an older-model .30 caliber hunting rifle was discovered in the woods near the scene of Wednesday’s shooting at Utah Valley University, wrapped in a towel with a spent cartridge still in the chamber. There were also three unspent rounds in the magazine, all with wording on them, it said”, added the Journal.)
Now, police have shared photographs of a person of interest, obtained via surveillance footage at the scene. But it’s a college-aged man wearing a hat and sunglasses, with an American flag and eagle shirt on it—probably an outfit designed for him to fit in, and no really identifiable characteristics. “We need as much help as we can possibly get”, said Utah Gov. Spencer Cox. Investigators added that they had gotten a footwear impression as well as palm and forearm imprints, all of which might possibly be helpful.
Meanwhile in Washington, D.C., lawmakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D–N.Y.) are doing the precise opposite of what Kirk would’ve wanted: Using his death as an opportunity to call for gun control. But someone should press Ocasio-Cortez to cite a specific law that would have stopped this shooting; we don’t actually know anything about the shooter, and from the weapon recovered, it looks like a hunting rifle was used. So what, exactly, is her vision for how to prevent this type of thing going forward?

Thomas Sowell Quotes (@ThomasSowell) September 11, 2025
Meanwhile, writer Konstantin Kisin makes a good point about double standards between right and left. “Never once since Charlie Kirk was assassinated have I worried about the possibility of riots, burning of cities, ‘autonomous zones’ or violence in the streets”, writes Kisin. “And this is for a decent family man murdered in cold blood for his political opinions. In the summer of 2020, all of those things happened across America and many other countries too. Over a career criminal who died in a police interaction with a negligent and careless cop.”
“So no, I don’t believe either party has a monopoly on political violence”, he continues. “We’ve seen left wing politicians attacked and killed too. It’s just as awful and just as wrong. But I also think it’s worth noticing what’s not there and thinking about why.”
You could point to certain factors at play: George Floyd, whom he was referencing, was killed at the hands of an agent of the state, whereas Kirk was the victim of an illegal act of violence. But Kisin is right that the killing of Kirk, as he was engaged in political speech, probably should elicit more outrage from even those who disagree with him. Instead, some of the reaction videos—because, yes, that’s a genre now—have been just plain startling, denigrating the idea of taking the moral high ground and expressing sympathy for the man’s widow and children:
“Charlie Kirk was shot saying something transphobic about trans people… You don’t have to like violence, but I’m confused at how you thought the revolution would be magically bloodless.”
Transgenderism is a very sick cult.
pic.twitter.com/GCCAKbWraf
— Genevieve Gluck (@WomenReadWomen) September 11, 2025
There was the “we got Charlie in the neck” chant. The “no empathy” crowd. The “this was God’s plan” girl. The “finally someone grew a pair” woman. The “now he’s a deadbeat father” gal. The “this one was a welcome surprise (but not the one we were hoping for)” person. And many more. Then there was all the mocking.
If you actually watch the ample footage of Kirk debating people, you’ll see over and over again, a humane and thoughtful person. Sometimes he’s engaged in showmanship, and the debate is all a sport. But especially in recent years, you see a man strong in his convictions, who seems to take legitimate pleasure in serving as an unlikely therapist to students who are deeply questioning politics, philosophy, and how to find meaning.
Meanwhile, The New York Times wants you to believe that his views—like his belief in the Second Amendment—were “controversial”, a description they don’t use when describing, say, liberals who are pro-choice:
That controversial belief that’s enshrined in our Constitution and that 51% of Americans support pic.twitter.com/j19lhm7z89
— Liz Wolfe (@LizWolfeReason) September 11, 2025
The New York Times, of course, has long had problems figuring out how to cover conservatives (more here), but I’m more interested in whether the edgy videos are Frantz Fanon LARPing or attention-seeking incentivized by an algorithm or an earnest undercurrent on the left. (Maybe all of the above.) I think it’s mostly that last one, and it’s been going on for my entire adult life—I entered college in 2014, two years after Kirk’s Turning Point USA got off the ground, when the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, galvanized a movement against police brutality and an ensuing wave of racial hypersensitivity and tension. In the years since, we’ve had firings and deplatformings and narrowing of Overton windows, specifically in academia and anywhere a critical mass of leftists can amass enough power to silence those with whom they disagree. Acting like words do the same damage violence does—which was always false—seems to have given way to leftists justifying violence as retribution for certain words.
Scenes from I spent a lot of last night toggling back and forth between viewing TikTok leftists celebrating Kirk’s murder and viewing footage of heroes putting their lives on the line on 9/11. I can’t help but feel, viscerally, that people were just built differently then, even as recently as 24 years ago, dashing into harm’s way not for social media glory but because of an almost devout appreciation for American ideals, a sense of honor and duty both to country and fellow man. (I’m pregnant, dammit, I’m allowed to be this sappy and patriotic.)
I always come back to the Ladder 118 photo from 9/11. One little truck, six guys, thousands of people in trouble. The odds were against them. No one on this truck ever came home. But them going was the right thing to do. Sometimes that’s how it goes. pic.twitter.com/yOg9XQA7Mc

“Inflation hit its highest annualized level since January by rising to 2.9 percent in August, according to consumer price data released Thursday by the Department of Labor”, writes Reason’s Eric Boehm. “In the past month, prices climbed by 0.4 percent, the highest month-over-month increase since December 2024….The consumer price index showed that rising prices in August hit all levels of what voters might consider ‘everyday essentials.’ Food prices climbed by 0.5 percent, while energy prices shot up by 0.7 percent. Clothing (up 0.5 percent), new and used vehicles (up 0.3 percent and 1 percent, respectively), and shelter (up 0.4 percent) all climbed as well.”
You can really see the price impact of tariffs on audio equipment like speakers, microphones, & headphones—they’re some of the few electronics not exempt from tariffs (most smartphones/computers are still tariff-free) & so prices are up more than 12% year-on-year pic.twitter.com/EhHXQoGimJ

“European leaders accused Russia on Thursday of a deliberate incursion by sending drones to invade Polish airspace, and said they saw the provocation as a test—both for the Kremlin and for Europe—of NATO’s readiness to defend its territory”, reports The . “Article 5 of the NATO treaty states that an attack on one ally constitutes an attack on all, though Poland would have to request help and the other 31 allies would have to unanimously agree to take action under the common-defense clause.” Poland has instead requested help under Article 4, which “trigger[s] a consultation among allies over whether one is under threat.”
This is very sweet:
Like all of you, I am mourning Charlie Kirk. He stood up for his beliefs and died for them at 31, wearing a T‑shirt that read “Freedom.”

Trump Says He’s Sending National Guard To Memphis

0

Trump said he would have “preferred going to Chicago.”
Key Facts
Trump said on Fox & Friends his administration will send the “National Guard and anybody else we need” to Memphis, calling it “deeply troubled.”
Trump confirmed the deployment after telling reporters Thursday he was considering sending troops there or to St. Louis, alleging they have higher crime rates than Chicago.
Memphis police reported earlier this month a six-year low in homicides and a 25-year low in overall crime, WREG Memphis reported.
Trump said he would have rather sent National Guard troops to Chicago, where the city’s Democrat mayor and governor have rejected his suggestion.
Trump can’t activate the National Guard outside Washington, D.C., without permission from the state’s governor absent exceptional circumstances, such as an insurrection or natural disaster.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, a Republican, has suggested he would cooperate with the federal deployment, saying earlier this week in a statement, “for months” he has “been in constant communication with the Trump Administration to develop a strategic plan to combat crime in Memphis.”
This is a developing story and will be updated.
