How Accurate Are Harbor Freight Torque Wrenches? (According To Users)

0

Users have tried the various torque wrench offerings from Harbor Freight to general approval. Some have even put the tools through rigorous testing.
Harbor Freight owns the brand names that emblazon the torque wrenches sold in its stores. The top brand, Icon, has honors as Harbor Freight’s most expensive ($399.99) and highest rated torque wrench manufacturer on the budget tool retailer’s website. It also bolsters the largest number of torque wrench models with 10. The Quinn brand’s eight models occupy the middle ground with its highest priced torque wrench selling for $179.99. Pittsburg and Pittsburg Pro combine to produce four models with the highest priced model selling for $79.99.
All three Harbor Freight torque wrench brands offer ½-inch drive torque wrenches, arguably the most popular size used by DIY and professional mechanics. Sean, a Harbor Freight “Verified Buyer”, says the $139.99 Icon ½-drive Professional Split Beam Torque Wrench is a “great torque wrench”, and praises its accuracy and price. Willy gave the Harbor Freight ½-inch drive Icon Professional Click Torque Wrench, also $139.99, a 5-star rating, calling the torque wrench “accurate, reliable, [and] well made.”
In a YouTube video, Real Tool Reviews pitted Harbor Freight’s ½-inch drive Icon Professional Click Torque Wrench against the $490.00 Snap-on model QDR3R250A torque wrench in a head-to-head test. The Icon torque wrench met its advertised +/- 4% clockwise and +/- 6% counterclockwise accuracy and outperformed the Snap-on model. During the test, Harbor Freight’s Icon delivered higher accuracy for torque settings across its range and more consistent readings when set to 75 lb-ft of torque. In addition, the majority of Harbor Freight torque wrench brands offer a lifetime warranty. What about Harbor Freight’s cheapest ½-inch drive torque wrench?
While Icon torque wrenches are very accurate according to users, Harbor Freight’s top brand is priced out of some budgets. With that in mind, if you needed a torque wrench for tasks like properly torquing your lug nuts or torquing the drain plug as one of the steps to changing the oil in your car yourself, would Harbor Freight’s $21.99 ½-inch drive torque wrench by Pittsburgh be accurate enough?
Users largely agree that the inexpensive Pittsburgh torque wrench is accurate enough for most DIY torquing tasks. On the r/harborfreight subreddit, SierraHotel058 says “The Pittsburgh torque wrench ($9.99 on sale) is perfectly adequate for most [DIY tasks].” Harbor Freight customers agree, giving the Pittsburgh torque wrench a 4.6-star (out of 5) rating. Several Harbor Freight customers, including Francisco, found the wrench to be “accurate enough”, especially for the price, but a small percentage of reviewers disagreed.
The Tools Tested YouTube channel put the Pittsburgh ½-inch drive torque wrench through its paces. The channel’s tests ultimately put over 1,000 cycles on six different wrenches purchased from different Harbor Freight locations over several years. The collected test data shows that all six Pittsburgh torque wrenches met or exceeded Harbor Freight’s advertised +/- 4% accuracy before and after 1,000 clicks.
On the other hand, Asbjorn, a Rocky Mountain Extreme forum user from Colorado, says that while they’d trust Harbor Freight torque wrenches “for other jobs (e.g. lug nuts, beadlock bolts) [they] probably wouldn’t [trust them] for something as critical as an engine build.” That sentiment is echoed in the Tools Tested video, at least for the Pittsburgh model. Our methodology
We turned to Harbor Freight customer reviews and the opinions of users on online forums to see what they thought of the accuracy of Harbor Freight’s torque wrench lineup. To back up those opinions with data, we looked at what users with access to torque measuring devices were posting on YouTube.
It’s obvious that the Harbor Freight Icon torque wrenches are the most accurate torque wrenches the company has to offer, even besting Snap-on in the battle for torque wrench supremacy. While there are no long-term tests pitting the two brands against each other, the Icon’s bargain price makes it an appealing option, at least for the occasional user with room in their tool budget.
Torque wrench buyers on a tighter budget will be pleased with the accuracy of Harbor Freight’s less expensive models. Even the company’s most affordable torque wrench delivers its advertised +/- 4% accuracy.

Trump demands Bagram airbase, ‘not possible’ Taliban says

Trump threatened punishment against Afghanistan if the base was not returned, four years after it was abandoned by US troops in a deal he brokered.
An Afghan government defence official said Sunday that a deal over Bagram airbase was “not possible”, after US President Donald Trump said he wanted the former US base back.
Bagram, the largest airbase in Afghanistan, located north of the capital Kabul, was the centre of US operations in their 20-year year-war against the Taliban.
Trump threatened unspecified punishment against Afghanistan if it was not returned – four years after it was abandoned by US troops.
“If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, bad things are going to happen!” the 79-year-old leader posted on social media.
On Sunday, Fasihuddin Fitrat, chief of staff of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence, said “some people” want to take back the base through a “political deal”.
“Recently, some people have said that they have entered negotiations with Afghanistan for taking back Bagram airbase,” he said in comments broadcast by local media.

Commanders' Dan Quinn left bloodied after quarterback runs into him during play

Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota ran over head coach Dan Quinn in the second quarter of their win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was caught in the middle of a play and run over during the team’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota ran to his left as the team moved up the field before halftime. He was pushed out of bounds by Raiders defensive back Tristin McCollum. Mariota ran through Quinn, who was trying to halt his player’s momentum.
Quinn’s head appeared to connect with Mariota’s shoulder pad as he fell backward to the ground. The FOX broadcast showed the veteran coach with a bloody nose. Washington hit a field goal before halftime to go up 20-10.
“I’m OK, everything’s good. Just gonna be this kind of day where it’s a physical game, back and forth, and that’s what we expected coming in”, he told FOX’s Jennifer Hale before the second half began.
The Commanders won the game, 41-24.
Mariota started for an injured Jayden Daniels. He dug deep and went 15-of-21 passing with 207 yards and a touchdown pass. He added 40 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
It was his first start since 2022 when he was with the Atlanta Falcons.
Jaylin Lane electrified the crowd with a 95-yard punt return for a touchdown as well.
Raiders quarterback Geno Smith had 289 passing yards and threw three touchdown passes in the loss. Tre Tucker led the way with eight catches for 145 yards. He caught all three of Smith’s touchdown passes.
Washington improved to 2-1 with the win. Las Vegas fell to 1-2.

Handelsblatt.

Commanders coach Dan Quinn bloodied after head-on collision with Marcus Mariota

Commanders coach Dan Quinn was bloodied after a collision with quarterback Marcus Mariota.
Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn led his team back to the locker room at halftime with a 20-10 lead — and a nasty cut in need of medical assistance.
With less than ten seconds remaining in the second quarter of Washington’s eventual 41-24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders Sunday at Northwest Stadium, Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota got shoved out of bounds on a 3-yard rush and ran straight into Quinn on the sideline — giving his coach a nasty cut on the bridge of his nose.
Both Mariota and Quinn tumbled to the ground after the head-on collision, with the coach’s headset and hat flying clean off upon impact.
But Quinn, a former defensive lineman at DIII Salisbury University, is no stranger to taking a hit.
The 55-year-old head coach popped back up to his feet, sporting the fresh gash, casually wiped away the blood with a towel, and proceeded to celebrate as his team knocked in a field goal while time expired.
The Commanders then went back to the tunnel for halftime, where plenty of trainers were there to greet Quinn.
Washington established an early lead on a touchdown rush from Mariota, who filled in at quarterback after Jayden Daniels suffered a knee sprain in their Week 2 loss against the Green Bay Packers.
Mariota went 15-for-21 with 207 yards passing and a touchdown, adding 40 yards rushing and a rushing score. He was sacked once and lost a fumble.
The Commanders (2-1) visit the Falcons (1-2) next week.

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Offers Blunt Words After Big Win

0

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers spoke out bluntly after beating the New England Patriots.
Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to improve to 2-1 on the young season with a big 21-14 victory on the road against the New England Patriots.
It wasn’t a pretty game for the future Hall of Fame quarterback. However, he was able to make enough plays to get the job done, especially with how well the defense played in support of the offense.
When all was said and done, Rodgers completed 16 of his 23 pass attempts for 139 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Those clearly aren’t the numbers he was targeting entering the game, but a win is a win.
Following the game, the 41-year-old quarterback spoke out with some blunt words about the win.
As shared by NFL on CBS on X, Rodgers was not pleased with his performance. He did take the time to spread praise for the defense for the game it put together.
“[The defense] came out and played incredible”, Rodgers said. “I didn’t have a good game.”
Being able to defeat the Patriots without Rodgers making a huge impact is a great sign for Pittsburgh. The team will obviously need him to play better moving forward, but it holds a 2-1 record and made the necessary plays to win the game.
Along with the win, Rodgers also passed Brett Favre for fourth all-time when it comes to passing touchdowns. That was a big moment for him to pass up his former mentor.
After the win, legendary Steelers head coach Bill Cowher spoke out glowingly about Rodgers. He loves what he’s seeing from the veteran signal caller.
“I love his leadership”, Cowher said. “That’s what’s been missing a long time on that football team.”
Entering the 2025 NFL season, Pittsburgh was viewed as a potential Super Bowl contender. Through three weeks, the Steelers have shown signs of being that kind of team, but they need to work on the consistency side of things.
At the end of the day, they were able to defeat New England and Rodgers has made a positive impact. Next up for Pittsburgh will be a tough Week 4 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, who dismantled the Cincinnati Bengals this week.
It will be interesting to see if Rodgers can have a big bounce-back performance after struggling a bit against the Patriots.

5 Unique DeWalt Products (And What They're Used For)

0

DeWalt sells a extraordinarily wide variety of power tools. Of course, there’s the usual drills and saws, but it also makes stuff with far more specific uses.
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.
You’d be surprised at the number of tools capable of completing extremely specific tasks, including ones you may never have even heard of before. There are multiple tools DeWalt has created for professionals to perform a distinct task, and we’ve rounded up some of the more unorthodox ones. The tools we’ve included on this list aren’t likely ones you’re going to run out and buy, but it may at least be interesting to learn about how they work. These are not the traditional DeWalt tools every homeowner should have in their garage.
All the items included on this list were reviewed as unique choices, as they likely won’t be kept in a DIY toolbox or by someone who likes to work on projects around the house. These are likely carried by professionals, and the person using them has this tool for an exact purpose. We’ll talk about what makes this tool unique and why someone would use it during a project.DeWalt Benchtop Planer
The DeWalt Benchtop Planer is a peculiar tool designed for a clear-cut task: refine and shave down wood and other materials. Although this tool seems large and cumbersome, it is designed to be portable, and you can bring it with you onto job sites to help plane any of the lumber you’re using. The traditional, industrial version of this tool is significantly larger and handles much bigger pieces of lumber on a massive scale. This is bigger than the electric hand planer that every woodworking workshop needs.
When operating the machine, you’ll dial in and adjust the settings to input the dimensions you want for your lumber. After the dimensions are set, the piece of wood you want to use goes into the machine and slides through the various knives and blades inside. These blades gradually shave off and tone down the lumber, refining it into the preferred shape you want to use. You should have a cleaner piece of lumber when it comes out on the other end.
You’d like to use this machine when you need to use a piece of lumber with precise dimensions. Because the dimensions are already in the machine, you can load more wood into it, so multiple pieces look the same.DeWalt Pipe Threader
For those who don’t deal with plumbing, the DeWalt Pipe Threader might look like a strange tool. This is a must have tool that you’ll use when completing at-home plumbing projects, though it won’t have too much use outside of construction sites where the designing of metal pipes for the interiors of buildings mostly happens.
Generally, a pipe threader applies adds the specific threads needed to ensure the liquid held within a pipe doesn’t leak through at its connections. How you use the DeWalt Pipe Threader is by placing the pipe through the clamp and settling the end into the tool. From here, the threads move around the pipe and slowly carve away into the metal, creating distinct threading. Once it’s finished, the tool is pulled away, and the pipe has a brand new set of threads. These can be male or female, depending on what type you’re making with this tool.
Alternatively, you might use this tool on a drainage line if there’s a leak in the pipes. There’s a good amount of versatility with this tool, but only if you’re laying down metal piping yourself for a project.DeWalt 3-Inch Cut-Off Tool
The DeWalt 3-Inch Cut-Off Tool is distinct because of how precise it is with its measurements. This hand power tool only goes 3 inches deep, but it offers a distinct way for you to slice straight through hearty materials like cement, tile, stone, or board, and not too many people require that type of precision from a saw. The shallowness of blade means you won’t be cutting through heaps of those materials, but its construction makes it incredibly sharp and robust.
The 3-inch cut-off tool features a rotary diamond saw blade that you’ll use to cut through tough materials, and it works similarly to other hand saws that you may have used on other projects. The main difference is what materials you’re using with this blade, and how precise you need to be during a project. You can also connect it to an extractor if you want to make sure none of the debris gets out when you’re cutting.
If you’re laying down piping, tile, or stones, bringing this out is a good way to refine these materials before you lay any of them down for a heavy-duty project. It’s why we recommend this tool if you’re looking for a cut-off saw, although it does have limitations.DeWalt 20V Max Grabo Lifter
To make sure you never drop something precious or delicate when working on a construction job, consider the DeWalt 20V Max Grabo Lifter. It looks like a small handle that you’d use to scale a wall when robbing a bank, but this power tool is actually a device that holds on tight to a specific material. So long as you don’t drop the grabo lifter, the item won’t fall and hit the ground.
The grabo lifter is a grip with a vacuum suction cup on the front, and utilizes a battery to keep an item it’s holding in place. You use it by placing the suction cup against an object, flipping the switch on the grip, and it should suck up the object and cling to it, not letting go until you hit the button again. The type of objects you’d use this on includes glass, stone, drywall, or even tiles, if they’re large enough. The objects you’d use a grabo lifter on are several hundred pounds, meaning you’re using this tool for precision and stability. We’ve covered the DeWalt Max Grabo Lifter before, explaining how it works in more detail.DeWalt Grease Gun
Another tool you might not have seen or used before, if you don’t traditionally use large equipment, is the DeWalt Grease Gun. You may have spotted ones in car shops, but this one is much larger, with a motor that can produce 10,000 PSI. You might consider greasing your car’s shocks and struts if you have a grease gun. It’s a specialized tool that applies lubrication to a massive mechanism where there’s a chance for friction to occur between non-sealed components that have a chance to wear down over time. The reason you’d use this tool is to increase the quality of a mechanism’s components.
To use the DeWalt grease gun, first remove the cylinder from the tool, and add the grease into the barrel. The grease you load into the tool typically comes in cylinders, so you shouldn’t worry about getting it everywhere. When you’ve done that, put the barrel back into the tool, and you’re ready to use it. The grease gun has a hose that you aim to apply the grease, allowing you to place it into a mechanism’s grease fittings.
A grease fitting, also called a zerk fitting, is a one-way check valve that releases grease at precise points throughout an equipment piece. You find them on bearing housings or components that deliver the grease from the grease gun to specific locations within a moving part to keep them healthy.

By The Numbers: Browns 13, Packers 10

0

The Green Bay Packers suffered a stunning 13-10 loss to Cleveland on Sunday.
The Green Bay Packers found a way to snare defeat from the jaws of victory Sunday, losing a 10-0 lead in the final 3:38 and dropping a 13-10 decision to Cleveland.
Here’s a look at the game ‘By the Numbers.’
1 — Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love threw one interception — his first in the regular season since Nov. 17, 2024. Love also picked a terrible time for that costly mistake.
Grant Deplit intercepted Love on a third down late in the game and returned the pick 25 yards to Green Bay’s 4-yard line.
One play later, Cleveland rookie running back Quinshon Judkins had a 1-yard TD run to tie the game, 10-10.
“So they were playing man coverage, and the guy Delpit did a hell of a job,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. “He passed off Tuck to the inside backer and he fell off in the window. That’s a bad play call. We shouldn’t have called that play. That’s on me.”
2 — Green Bay defensive end Rashan Gary had both of the Packers’ sacks.
Gary now has a sack in five straight regular season games and leads Green Bay with 4.5 sacks this season.
2 — Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur won his second straight challenge, this one after catching Cleveland with 12 men on the field.
Prior to that, LaFleur had won just two of his previous 15 challenges.
4 — Green Bay first round rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden had four catches for 52 yards. Golden had just two receptions for 16 yards in the first two games of the year.
5 — Green Bay’s offensive line was dreadful and Love was sacked five times for a loss of 34 yards.
“Give them credit,” Love said of the Browns. “They’re a good defense. We’ve got to find ways to be able to go out there and take advantage of what they’re doing.”
8.0 — The Packers were an 8-point favorite. The money line was Green Bay -425 and Cleveland +325.
14 — Green Bay had a whopping 14 penalties for 75 yards. The Packers had a combined 14 penalties in their first two games.
“We’ve got to coach it better and we’ve got to be harder on our guys if we see it in practice, because that’s where it all starts,” LaFleur said of the penalties. “So ultimately we’ve got to do a better job across the board.”
43 — Green Bay kicker Brandon McManus had a 43-yard field goal attempt blocked with 27 seconds left and the game knotted, 10-10.
55 — Browns kicker Andre Szmyt drilled a 55-yard field goal as time expired to lift Cleveland to victory.
“To be in a position to win the game at the end of the game, and to have the total, the script totally flip on you with the block and them getting into field-goal range, it’s tough,” LaFleur said. “It’s tough to deal with.”
2003 — This was the first time Cleveland won a game after being held scoreless for three quarters since Week 3, 2003. On that day, the Browns trailed San Francisco, 9-0, after three quarters and won, 13-12.
