Jay-Z: Chester Bennington Tribute During 4: 44 First Performance

Jay-Z gave a tribute to Chester Bennington during his first performance of “4: 44” — watch the video.
Jay-Z remembered Chester Bennington at the U. K.’s Virgin V Festival Sunday night, where the rapper performed songs from “ 4: 44 ” for the first time.
“Can you guys light it up tonight for Chester?” Jay-Z asked fans. “Linkin Park, one time— tonight. Please make some noise so he can hear you all the way in heaven tonight!”
The rapper dedicated his performance of “Numb/Encore” to the late musician, who was found dead in mid-July.
Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda Reacts to Chester Bennington’s Death
Jay-Z and Bennington collaborated together on the Jay-Z/Linkin Park album “Collision Course, ” released in 2004, which reached no. 1 on the Billboard 200. The EP’s single “Numb/Encore” won a Grammy award for best rap/sung collaboration at the 2006 awards.
Bennington’s death was ruled a suicide after he was found in his Palos Verdes home. The 41-year-old singer had struggled with substance abuse in the past. Over 300 memorials were held for the singer around the country, and Linkin Park canceled its tour to grieve. The band posted a statement to Bennington on their Facebook page in the wake of Bennington’s passing.
“Talking with you about the years ahead together, your excitement was infectious, ” the statement read. “Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled—a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing. We’ re trying to remind ourselves that the demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal. After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place. You fearlessly put them on display, and in doing so, brought us together and taught us to be more human. You had the biggest heart, and managed to wear it on your sleeve.”

May facing scrutiny over Brexit trade efforts as Japan ‎trip looms

0

Business leaders are becoming increasingly sceptical of the PM’s commitment to trade ahead of a visit to Japan, Sky News learns.
Sky News has learnt that the Prime Minister wants to restrict the size of the business delegation that will join her trip to the world’s third-biggest economy later this month.
She is also said to be keen to avoid what a person close to her Downing Street operation described as the “theatre” of signing ceremonies co-ordinated to unveil bilateral corporate deals.
Sources said that‎ as few as 15-20 business leaders might accompany Mrs May on the visit, which is scheduled to include talks with Shinzo Abe, the Japanese prime minister, on issues such as trade and defence.
A delegation of that size would be a far cry from the scores of executives who were invited to join her predecessor, David Cameron, on similar trips to Asia – although he took just under 40 private sector bosses on a trade mission to Japan in April 2012.
The delegation travelling with Mrs May will include Carolyn Fairbairn, director general of the CBI, and her counterpart at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) , Adam Marshall, according to a source.
The list is still being finalised, with one Downing Street official suggesting that responsibility for putting together the delegation partly lay with the Department for International Trade.
Further names are expected to be added in the coming days, according to one source, while efforts to corral a list of business deals to be announced during the PM’s trip have been accelerated in the last few days, they said.
The final number of business leaders who accompany Mrs May could yet exceed 20, the source added.
‎A weak performance in terms of deal announcements during the trade mission would risk reinforcing the belief of many in the British business community that Mrs May has only a lukewarm enthusiasm for the success of private enterprise.
“The deal-signings are what these trips are all about, and especially now that the UK needs to show it is wide open for business, ” said the head of one major company who has accompanied ministers on previous trade missions.
“If that really is her approach, it will need to change.”
Another boss said the PM “should be trying ‎to take a big plane-load of people who want to do deals with Japanese companies”.
Mrs May has sought to shake off the impression that she is hostile to the private sector since she returned to Downing Street in June by effectively reinstating a version of the ‎advisory group set up by Mr Cameron.
However‎, the lack of clarity at this stage of the Brexit negotiations has caused some foreign investors to press the pause button on significant investment in the UK.
Mrs May faces ‎the additional headache that many of Japan’s corporate giants have expressed particular alarm at the decision to leave the European Union.
While Nissan, the car manufacturer, has restated its commitment to its plant in Sunderland, a powerful Japanese business lobbying group urged the UK Government to negotiate “with deeper consideration for the economy”.
Sir Vince Cable‎, the Liberal Democrat leader who led a number of sizeable trade missions when he was Business Secretary during the 2010-15 Coalition, described the PM’s ambition as “modest”.
Speaking to Sky News, Sir Vince said her approach would “raise questions”.
“She may be trying to avoid raising expectations after the embarrassment of her visit to India‎ [in November 2016] , where the host government made it clear that it was not interested in special deals with Britain.
“Japan has been very disappointed by Brexit, particularly after so many of its companies have based operations in Britain because of the acess it gives them to the single market.
Sir Vince said he believed the “pickings from the Japan trip will be very modest”.
A Downing Street spokeswoman said the “composition of the business delegation will be announced in due course” but refused to name any of those who would attend at this stage.
An earlier statement quoted by Reuters last week‎ said the delegation accompanying Mrs May would “showcase the strength of British business, the shared confidence in the UK-Japan economic relationship as we leave the EU, and the potential for future growth”.
The CBI and BCC ‎both declined to comment.

Trump's new attack on the Chinese economy, explained

0

Bannon is out, but Trump is still willing to risk a trade war with China.
President Donald Trump is pursuing an unconventional and controversial strategy for pressuring China to open up its doors wider to American business. It’s a sign that the Trump administration is still willing to risk a trade war with China despite its ouster of strategist Steve Bannon, the most prominent economic nationalist in the administration.
The move involves launching an investigation into whether China is violating international trade law by systematically stealing intellectual property. China forces many foreign businesses to hand over their most prized technology in exchange for access to their market.
To push back against the practice, the White House is using Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. It’s a statute that the US uses to force countries to open up their markets when they restrict access to American exporters. It allows the US to unilaterally impose tariffs (taxes on incoming goods) on a foreign country’s exports or restrict its access to the US market.
Washington has used it with great success in the past, prying open, for example, Japan’s impenetrable semiconductor market in the 1980s. But the policy has barely been used in decades and is widely considered to be an unfair practice since the creation of the World Trade Organization in 1995. If the new investigation, which could take up to a year, results in economic punishments against China, it will cause uproar in the global trade arena.
Beijing has already promised to retaliate for any sanctions in the runup to the announcement.
“There is no future and no winner in a trade war, and both sides will be the losers, ” Hua Chunying, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, told reporters last week.
US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer announced the new move on Friday, the same day that Bannon was forced to leave his job. That’s a clear indication that Bannon’s views about China will remain a potent force in the White House even with him back at Breitbart News.
During a blockbuster interview with the American Prospect on Wednesday, Bannon said the US should take decisive action to halt in China’s rapid rise, which he sees as a direct, almost existential threat to the US. He specifically cited Section 301 as one of best weapons that the US had.
“We’ re going to run the tables on these guys. We’ ve come to the conclusion that they’ re in an economic war and they’ re crushing us, ” Bannon said during the interview with the left-leaning magazine’s editor, Robert Kuttner.
“To me the economic war with China is everything. And we have to be maniacally focused on that, ” he said.
There are still some China trade hawks in the administration who can keep Bannon’s vision alive, including Lighthizer and White House National Trade Council director Peter Navarro. Trump himself believes that threatening China economically could persuade Beijing to do more to rein in North Korea; he likely views this investigation as a bargaining chip in future discussions with China over how to manage Pyongyang.
The Section 301 gambit is a risky one for two main reasons. First, the US effectively agreed to stop using it once the global community agreed to form the World Trade Organization in 1995. If the US does actually take actions against China under the provision, it would undermine the global trade system — and could set off a whole wave of economically destabilizing tit-for-tat actions between China and the US.
Second, the new investigation isn’t designed to protect American workers, like most of Trump’s trade actions. Instead, its primary function is to make it easier for American corporations to expand their operations abroad — a process which often means they fire US workers and hire cheaper foreign ones. In other words, it could punish many of the blue-collar voters that helped Trump win the White House.
“Trump campaigned on the negative impacts of trade and trade deals like NAFTA on working Americans, but here instead he is intervening not to help working people but to help American investors and American multinational companies, ” Rob Scott, director of trade and manufacturing at the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning think tank, told me in an interview in the runup to the investigation announcement.
In other words, Trump’s Section 301 investigation could end up hurting American workers more than helping them.
Section 301 is a crude tool for solving trade disputes. It allows the US government to investigate and then take unilateral action against a country it accuses of using unfair market practices, such as the use of onerous regulations to discriminate against foreign start-ups. Washington used it regularly during the Reagan years, which meant that the US was unilaterally making decisions on global trade rather than consulting with the international community or working through a neutral arbiter.
“The US government acted as police force (identifying the foreign government’s crime) , prosecutor (making the legal arguments) , jury (ruling on the evidence) , and judge (sentencing the foreigner to US retaliatory punishment) , ” Chad Bown, a senior fellow at the pro-free trade Peterson Institute for International Economics, wrote in a memo about Section 301’s history earlier in August.
Understandably, most the US’s trading partners despised it. Section 301 basically enshrined the principle that might makes right, and the US is always the mightiest in any economic game.
But Section 301 nearly vanished after the formation of the WTO. It was widely understood that the WTO was meant to create a fair, legalistic trade dispute system overseen by international bodies of judges that would replace the need for unilateral tools like Section 301.
The WTO also codified most the kind of trade regulations that the US had been trying to enforce on its own, like trade in services and intellectual property rights.
“The rest of the world agreed to a more expansive set of rules and a binding dispute settlement system, and in exchange the US would stop acting as a bully, police, prosecutor, jury, and judge, ” Bown told me in an interview before the investigation announcement.
Since the WTO came into being, the US has only used Section 301 a handful of times, and most of the time the cases eventually would up before the WTO instead, says Bown.
But now the Trump administration has decided to revive the old law to launch an investigation and potentially deal an economic blow to Beijing. In particular, it wants to target China’s exceptionally cumbersome requirements for foreign companies to enter the Chinese market that effectively allow it to seize industry secrets.
Trump’s concern about China’s treatment of foreign company certainly has merit. China forces lots of foreign companies to form joint ventures with Chinese ones and hand over proprietary information in order to operate in the Chinese market. That puts many tech companies in a bind. They want access to China’s consumer market — the largest in the world — but they also don’ t want to give away their most prized innovations that give them a competitive edge in global markets.
That dilemma also has huge implications for the American economy as a whole. Intellectual property accounts for close to 40 percent of the US economy. “To the extent that we’ re not able to protect that, you’ re sacrificing millions or tens of millions of U. S. jobs, and U. S. companies should care a great deal about that, ” Randolph Kahn, an adjunct professor at Washington University School of Law, told the Washington Post .
The problem that Trump has identified is real. But his proposed method for solving it is troubling to most advocates for a stable, rules-based trading system. If Trump revives cowboy unilateralism in trade, what’s to stop other countries from doing so as well? China has already promised to respond in kind, and there’s no reason to think it would be the only nation to circumvent the WTO and target other governments on its own.
The global trade wars that could result would inevitably hurt American consumers and exporters as countries around the world pivot to a protectionist stance. Incoming goods from abroad would become more expensive, and American exports would see a plunge in demand.
It’s unclear at the moment if Trump’s investigation will actually lead to tariffs or restrictions on Chinese investment in America. But that’s the threat that underlies the investigation — and it’s what makes China uneasy.
If Trump does get what he wants, and China does make some concession on its market practices to placate him, it won’ t necessarily be a big win for American workers. After all, if big US corporations find it easier to invest in production in China, that would likely exacerbate the dynamic that Trump has spent years railing against.
“If Trump is successful, he will make our trade problems with China worse because what it will do is facilitate foreign investment in China — and foreign investment in China is all about outsourcing production, ” Scott says.
If a company knows that its intellectual property is finally safe in China, then it will have more incentives to go about investing in production there. And one big reason to do so is that labor is cheaper in China than the US. That in turn could spell layoffs for American workers at its American facilities.
That means Trump could lose even if he wins. If Trump extracts a compromise out of China, he’ ll brand it as a win for American enterprise. But the victory could come at a high cost for many of the voters that put him into office.
Right now, the US remains in the investigation stage. And it is possible that the inquiry won’ t result in any kind of action against China. Beijing could, for instance, preemptively make some concessions on market access to foreign companies, and the investigation could be dropped. Or there could be a scenario in which China doesn’ t budge but the White House decides that it simply doesn’ t want to risk a trade war or upending delicate North Korea-related negotiations. This open-ended investigation is a more moderate course of action against China than simply slapping tariffs on it, but if it does eventually escalate, the US could find itself reshaping global trade in a big way.

The leaked photograph depicts a bird-shaped Android Mascot with an animated Oreo cookie at its heart. Meanwhile, another source claims that the upcoming Android version would be named Orellete, a Canadian Pastry.
Renowned tipster Evan Blass has tweeted a fresh picture which clearly hints that the upcoming Android 8.0 will be called as Oreo. Google has already announced the official release date of Android O.
‘What will be the name of Android O?’ is currently one of the most-asked questions among smartphone enthusiasts. While the final countdown has begun for the launch of the successor of Android Nougat, popular tipster Evan Blass has posted a new image suggesting ‘Oreo’ to be the ultimate name of the Android 8.0.
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s an iterative mobile platform version upgrade! pic.twitter.com/izDHLXEJgh August 20,2017
The leaked photograph depicts a bird-shaped Android Mascot with an animated Oreo cookie at its heart. Meanwhile, another source claims that the upcoming Android version would be named Orellete, a Canadian Pastry. However, Oreo seems to be the more believable one.
All these will be cleared at Google’s Android O launch event scheduled to be held today in New York at 2: 40 pm EDT which is 22nd July 12: 10 am IST (Indian Standard Time) . The occasion directly coincides with the impending total solar eclipse.
Now that you know about the expected naming and release date of Android O, let’s talk a bit about its features.
While the nomenclature of the next Android OS is yet to get confirmed, we already have a fair amount of idea about its features. It has been months since Google had released the preview version of Android O for its Nexus and Pixel smartphones. So, here are the top features of Android 8.0 Oreo.
With Android O, Google is going to offer fully customisable notifications. You will be able to modify the category, priority, and channel of notification of respective applications. Another interesting thing is the notification badges. Also known as notification dots, these will show up on the app shortcuts placed in the launcher.
Moreover, the upcoming Android version would let you snooze notifications to reappear sometime later. You can also set specific timeout duration for each notification, after which it will clear off automatically.
The alleged Android Oreo will come equipped with AI-assisted autofill framework. This will memorise your login and credit or debit card credentials eliminating the need to type them over and over again as required by some apps.
This is one of the highly acclaimed features of the Android O. The Picture-in-Picture mode facilitates video playback in customisable floating windows. This should open up a new dimension of multitasking on your smartphone.
Android Oreo shall come with native support the Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) 5.0 standard. It will first version of Android to be directly compatible with the latest iteration of Bluetooth.
The upcoming Android operating system is going to facilitate some powerful AI-driven capabilities. Smart Text Selection is one of them. The new feature shall use artificial intelligence to select meaningful portions of a text document. For an instance, if you long press on a word within an address or a name of a restaurant or email address, etc. the system would select the entire entity.
Well, these are some of the prime features of Android O or allegedly Android 8.0 Oreo. There are some other goodies like reduced booting and app launching time, improved system UI fluidity, etc. Stay tuned for a comprehensive overview of the features after Google releases the next Android version in the next couple of hours.

Całkowite zaćmienie będzie widoczne w pasie o szerokości ok. 115 km i długości 4,2 tys. km. Faza całkowita potrwa maksymalnie 2 minuty i 40 sekund.
W pasie zaćmienia ceny hoteli i moteli kilkakrotnie poszły w górę.
(można je będzie obserwować z Hiszpanii) i 2 sierpnia 2027 r (Egipt) .
Nieco wcześniej, 10 czerwca 2021 r., z Polski widoczne będzie częściowe zaćmienie Słońca. Rok wcześniej, 21 czerwca 2020 r., skrawek zaćmienia częściowego (poniżej 1 proc. zasłonięcia tarczy słonecznej) dosięgnie fragmentów Bieszczadów.

JAY-Z dedicated his performance at the U. K.’s V Festival to the late Chester Bennington. He performed their collaboration, ‘Numb/Encore’, and spoke out for the first time about the singer’s tragic death.
JAY-Z, 47, had concert goers in tears at the U. K.’s Virgin V Festival on Sunday night [August 20] . When he took the stage to perform hits from his new album 4: 44, JAY also took the time to address the death of his friend, Chester Bennington, who hanged himself on July 20,2017. “Can you guys light it up tonight for Chester?” the rapper asked fans at Hylands Park, where he rapped songs from 4: 44 for the very first time. “ Linkin Park, one time — tonight. Please make some noise so he can hear you all the way in heaven tonight!” JAY then performed their 2008 collaboration, “Numb/Encore” and fans went wild. After he dedicated the song to Bennginton, JAY addressed the devastating incident once more when he said, “Peace and Love!” This marked the first time JAY spoke out about the late singer’s tragic death. Watch the full performance above.
The rapper and the metal band joined forces in 2004 to create Collision Course, a 6-song EP, which debuted at No. 1 and went double platinum. “Numb/Encore” — a mashup of Linkin Park’s “Numb” and JAY’s “Encore” — ended up winning Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 2006 Grammys. After Bennington’s untimely passing, the song skyrocketed on the music charts.
As you may know, it was confirmed in an official death certificate [August 2] , that Bennington hanged himself with a belt on July 20 at 9: 08 AM. He was found inside a bedroom in a private home in Palos Verdes, CA. Bennington was 41 at the time of his passing. The singer’s shocking death also occured on the same day his late friend, Chris Cornell would have turned 53-years-old. Cornell also committed suicide in May 2017.
The Linkin Park frontman’s death came just before the band was set to go on tour. However, in the wake of his death, Linkin Park canceled its tour to grieve the loss of their friend and beloved bandmate. Bennington’s bandmates — Rob Bourdon, Brad Delson, Dave Farrell, Joe Hahn and Mike Shinoda — took to Facebook after his death to let fans know the impact they had on the group, as their future remains in limbo.

Ryan to face voters following Trump nationwide address

0

House Speaker Paul Ryan will be taking questions from Wisconsin voters in a nationally televised town hall meeting immediately following President Donald Trump’s address on Afghanistan.
House Speaker Paul Ryan will be taking questions from Wisconsin voters during a nationally televised town hall meeting Monday night immediately following President Donald Trump’s address on Afghanistan.
Ryan had scheduled the event from his congressional district to be broadcast on CNN before Trump announced his speech to start at the same time. Ryan now will begin his event after the president talks.
CNN extended invitations to people from Ryan’s district and selected the questions that will be asked. That has led to criticism from Democrats who say the Republican Ryan has been hiding from Wisconsin voters since he hasn’t held a town hall open to everyone since October 2015.
Ryan’s Democratic challenger, Randy Bryce, said he did not receive a ticket to the event. Instead, he raised money to run a pair of television ads during the broadcast, including one where he poses three questions for Ryan to answer about health insurance, Trump and equal pay legislation.
Another Democrat whose congressional district is next to Ryan’s, U. S. Rep. Mark Pocan, planned to fact-check the entire town hall live on Twitter.
Pocan called the Ryan event a “stunt” and said in a fundraising email Monday that Ryan is “petrified” to take questions from his constituents.
Ryan has held numerous events in Wisconsin, but he’s only taken questions from the public in controlled environments such as private businesses.
Activists plan to rally outside Monday’s event to put pressure on Ryan to denounce Trump’s comments that “both sides” were to blame for violence at a white supremacists march in Virginia in which neo-Nazis and other right-wing groups clashed with counter-protesters. Trump said there were “very fine people” in each group.
Marina Dimitrijevic, executive director of Wisconsin Working Families Party, said in a statement that Ryan has ignored voters by refusing to hold a town hall for more than 650 days.
“Now that he’s finally addressing voters, we want to hear him denounce Trump’s racism and what he’s going to do to eradicate white supremacists in the Trump administration, ” she said.
Ryan has denounced the violence and the white supremacists, but has not directly criticized Trump’s comments.
Prior to the broadcast, Ryan issued a statement that again didn’t explicitly criticize Trump’s handling of the white supremacist march in Virginia but said the nation’s leaders “have an obligation” to steer the country past “the passions of the moment.”
The Ryan town hall event is in Racine, near where global electronics giant Foxconn Technology Group has said it plans to build a factory that could employ thousands. Ryan helped in negotiations with the Taiwanese company and has joined with Trump and others in touting the news as transformational for Wisconsin’s economy.

Facebook last month temporarily slashed $200 off the cost of its Oculus Rift virtual reality headset and Touch controller bundle. Shortly after, the company introduced a permanent price cut that brought the cost of the combo down to $499 (it’s still $399 via the temporary cut, FYI) .
Now, it’s HTC’s turn.
The Oculus rival on Monday said it is reducing the cost of its Vive headset by $200, dropping the price of the high-end VR solution down to $599.
HTC notes that all Vive purchases include a free trial to Viveport Subscription, granting access to up to five titles per month to experience, as well as copies of popular VR software such as Google’s Tilt Brush, EverestVR and Richie’s Plank Experience.
The company also points out that they’ ll have more information to share regarding the consumer launch of new Tracker software and hardware in the near future.
Virtual reality as we know it today burst onto the scene in 2012 with a Kickstarter campaign for the Oculus Rift. It would be several more years before consumer-grade solutions arrived to help usher in the age of modern virtual reality.
Costly gear, requisite high-end PC hardware and technological limitations, however, have kept VR from going full-on mainstream. Price cuts like these certainly help advance the initiative but don’ t guarantee the platform’s long-term success. For that, we’ ll need further price cuts, advancements and adoption beyond gaming (Facebook) .
