Asian shares dip on jitters after North Korea nuclear test

Asian shares were mostly lower Monday, on investor jitters shaken up by a North Korean nuclear test over the weekend that raised fears about risks to regional stability.
TOKYO (AP) – Asian shares were mostly lower Monday, on investor jitters shaken up by a North Korean nuclear test over the weekend that raised fears about risks to regional stability.
KEEPING SCORE: Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 edged down 0.9 percent to finish at 19,508.25, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.4 percent to 5,702.00. South Korea’s Kospi dipped 1.1 percent to 2,332.01. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slipped 0.8 percent to 27,736.67, but the Shanghai Composite was little changed, inching up 0.1 percent to 3,371.77.
NORTH KOREA: North Korea has said it had tested a hydrogen bomb. U. S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis responded by saying that the U. S. will answer any threat from the North with a “massive military response – a response both effective and overwhelming.” President Donald Trump threatened to halt all trade with countries doing business with the North, a veiled warning to China, and faulted South Korea for its “talk of appeasement.”
THE QUOTE: “Korean tensions are elevated again, ” said Chang Wei Liang, Singapore Treasury Division at Mizuho Bank. “While US Defense Secretary Mattis warned of a ‘massive military response’ if the U. S. or its allies are threatened, risk-off sentiment this morning is not unduly excessive, largely because markets still do not expect any military escalation in the near-term.”
U. S. JOBS: The Labor Department said U. S. employers added 156,000 jobs in August. That was a bit less than analysts expected, but investors were pleased that the economy kept growing at a steady pace while inflation remains weak. They bet that will keep the Federal Reserve from raising interest rates too quickly.
WALL STREET: The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 4.90 points, or 0.2 percent, to 2,476.55. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 39.46 points, or 0.2 percent, to 21,987.56. The blue chip index had its first change in more than two years on Friday, as longtime Dow component DuPont combined with former rival Dow Chemical to form DowDuPont. The Nasdaq composite added 6.67 points, or 0.1 percent, to 6,435.33. It was the best week this year for the Nasdaq as technology and health care companies surged. The index is at record highs.
ENERGY: Benchmark U. S. crude gained 4 cents to $47.33 a barrel. It added 6 cents to $47.29 a barrel in New York late Friday. Brent crude, which is used to price international oils, fell 49 cents to $52.26 a barrel in London.
CURRENCIES: The dollar fell to 109.43 yen from 110.04 yen late Friday. The euro slipped to $1.1893 from $1.1907.

Seoul responds to North Korea's nuclear test with drills to wipe out Kim

0

South Korea sent a message to the North with a series of live-fire drills Monday that it said were a “show of its willingness” to wipe out Kim Jong Un’s regime.
Jang also said South Korea plans to carry out another strike drill to show its “strong will and ability to respond.”
Here are the latest developments:
— South Korea’s Defense Ministry said it has spotted “continuous signs” that Pyongyang is preparing to test another intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) , Maj. Gen. Jang said.
— Leaders of Japan, South Korea held a 20-minute phone call Monday to discuss tougher sanctions.
— The United Nations Security Council to meet in New York Monday at 10 a.m. ET.
— China said it hadn’t detected any extra radiation from the test along its border.
— US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said he’s drafting tough sanctions against North Korea.
— US Defense Secretary James Mattis said House that any threat to the United States, its allies or its territories “will be met with a massive military response, a response both effective and overwhelming.” He said “we are not looking to the total annihilation of a country, namely North Korea, but as I said, we have many options to do so.”
— Trump took to Twitter after the announcement and said North Korea had become a “great threat and embarrassment to China.” He also warned South Korea their “talk of appeasement with North Korea will not work.”
— Pyongyang on Sunday claimed it has the ability to place a miniaturized nuclear weapon atop a missile with intercontinental capability, making it a direct threat to the United States.
South Korea military drills
The South Korean joint military drill was carried out by the Army and Air Force.
It involved multiple F-15K fighter jets and surface-to-surface ballistic missiles hitting targets off the country’s east coast to simulate a strike on North Korea’s nuclear test site, according to a statement from the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff.
“The joint exercise between the Army and the Air Force was a show of its willingness not only to wipe out the origin of the enemy attack but also the leadership and its supporting groups, ” said Moon Sang-gyun, a spokesman for South Korea’s Defense Ministry.
The drill was announced after Trump’s warning on Twitter to South Korea that “talk of appeasement” won’t work. The phrase invites a comparison to negotiations with Hitler prior to World War II, and was likely not well received by the South Korean government.
President Moon Jae-in’s office responded by reiterating the government would “pursue the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through peace with our allies.” Moon was elected in May and has long campaigned for more cooperation with Pyongyang.
Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee, said he didn’t see the point of calling out South Korea at this time.
“I’m sure that Pyongyang enjoys seeing us fight with our own ally in the region, ” Schiff said. “We need to be working hand in hand with South Korea and with Japan… why we would want to show divisions with South Korea makes no sense at all.”
Neither Washington nor Seoul has said if Moon and Trump have spoken over the phone, though US and South Korean military advisers have been in touch.
US threat on trade partners
In his series of tweets, Trump also called out China, saying that Pyongyang’s actions are a “great threat and embarrassment to China, which is trying to help but with little success.”
Beijing is currently hosting an international economic summit, and experts say the nuclear test could have been timed to coincide with that.
North Korea has timed missile tests this year to coincide with other important Chinese events, pointing to the missile test during the May “One Belt One Road Summit.”
Trump also tweeted that the US was considering cutting off all trade with “any country doing business with North Korea.” That would include China, which is long viewed as North Korea’s only real regional ally and economic lifeline.
Critics worry Trump’s threat could be perceived as an empty one — China is the largest US trading partner in terms of goods, and a trade war could be devastating.
Emergency session
Concerned parties will be watching closely what happens at the United Nations emergency meeting Monday.
It’s the second meeting of its kind in just days — ambassadors met last week to respond to North Korea’s launch of a missile that flew over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.
The UN issued a strongly-word statement but stopped short of announcing additional restrictions on top of tougher sanctions passed in early August.
The August sanctions are some of the most stringent to date, and the Trump administration has started punishing companies for doing business with North Korea — so-called “secondary sanctions.”
Sanctions have long been a tactic the international community has employed to punish and isolate Pyongyang, but in many ways they have failed.
The Kim regime developed its weapons and nuclear program despite the international measures designed to cripple the economy and which exacerbated periods of mass starvation.
‘Primed and ready’
North Korea claimed the device tested Sunday was a hydrogen bomb, a much more powerful type of nuclear weapon that uses fusion instead of fission to increase the blast yield, or destructive power. It is also known as a thermonuclear bomb.
While it’s nearly impossible to verify the North Korean claim that the weapon was small enough to be put on a missile, the tremors that followed the blast can help scientists calculate how powerful the explosion was.
NORSAR, a Norway-based group that monitors nuclear tests, estimated it had an explosive yield of 120 kilotons, which means the power of 120,000 tons of TNT. South Korean officials gave a more modest estimate of 50 kilotons.
The country has for years worked on miniaturizing a nuclear warhead so it can be fitted atop a long-range missile and survive the heat-intensive process of re-entering the earth’s atmosphere.
“The fact is the North Koreans have now done sixth nuclear tests … it’s not surprising that they’ve gotten here, ” said Jeffrey Lewis, the director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.

South Korea sees more possible North Korea ballistic missile tests: Defense Ministry

0

South Korea’s defence ministry said in a parliament hearing on Monday it was still seeing signs that North Korea planned to stage more ballistic missile launches.
South Korea’s defense ministry said in a parliament hearing on Monday it was still seeing signs that North Korea planned to stage more ballistic missile launches, possibly including an intercontinental ballistic missile. “We have continued to see signs of possibly more ballistic missile launches. We also forecast North Korea could fire an intercontinental ballistic missile, ” said Chang Kyung-soo, a defense ministry official. The defense ministry was called by parliament on Monday to answer questions about North Korea’s sixth and largest nuclear test that was carried out a day earlier.

Indonesian Muslims protest Rohingya persecution

Indonesian Muslims protest Rohingya persecution
Several hundred Muslim women demonstrated outside Myanmar’s embassy in the Indonesian capital on Monday in the third day of protests calling for the government to take a tougher stance against persecution of Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslim minority.
Dozens of armed police are guarding the embassy, which is cordoned behind barbed wire, after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it on the weekend.
Protesters, organized by an Islamic group called Friends of Muslim Rohingya, shouted “Save Rohingya, ” and held big banners that read, “Unite the people to free Rohingya Muslims” and “Stop Muslim genocide in Myanmar!”
The violence in Myanmar and an exodus of tens of thousands of Rohingya from Rakhine state into Bangladesh began after insurgents attacked Myanmar police and paramilitary posts in what they said was an effort to protect their ethnic minority from persecution by security forces in the majority Buddhist country.
In response, Myanmar’s military unleashed what it called “clearance operations.” Human Rights Watch says satellite imagery shows 700 buildings were burned in the Rohingya Muslim village of Chein Khar Li, just one of 17 locations in Rakhine state where the rights group has documented burning of property.
Malala Yousafzai, the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize, said on Twitter she is waiting for fellow Nobel laureate, Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi, to condemn the “tragic and shameful treatment” of the Rohingya minority. In Australia, around 300 people from its Rohingya community rallied outside Parliament House and called on the government to intervene to prevent violence.
Indonesian Muslims protested against Myanmar’s government in Jakarta on the weekend, setting fire to a picture of Suu Kyi and further protests are set for this week. Local media reported that one group plans to stage a protest at Borobudur, a famous ancient Buddhist temple in central Java.
“The world remains silent in the face of the massacre of Rohingya Muslims, ” said Farida, an organizer of Monday’s protest who uses a single name.
“They have been tortured and killed like animals by Buddhists in Myanmar, ” she told the crowd outside the embassy. “We demand the government puts pressure on the Buddhist government of Myanmar. We demand mobilization of our military to rescue the Rohingya.”
Indonesia’s president has called for an end to violence in Rakhine state and sent his foreign minister to discuss the plight of Rohingya Muslims with Suu Kyi.

0

За минулу добу один український військовослужбовець зазнав поранень на Донбасі
Про це повідомляє прес-центр штабу АТО на своїй сторінці у Facebook.

Top 5 Worst CPUs

0

Today we’re going to do something a little different just for fun and look at the top 5 worst CPUs released in the last few years. This is not intended to be taken as seriously as one of our buying guides, and if you happen to have…
Earlier this year we updated our CPU buying guide putting Ryzen front and center, and while that guide is due for an update now that Ryzen 3 and Threadripper have landed, those picks are still as valid today as they were back then with the Ryzen 5 1600 offering the best performance for your buck for most users.
Today we’re going to do something a little different just for fun and look at the top 5 worst CPUs released in the last few years. This is not intended to be taken as seriously as one of our buying guides, and if you happen to have one of these CPUs please don’ t be offended. In fact, under certain conditions they might even be a justified purchase. Without further ado, let’s see why we think these are bad picks for most users…
Most of these picks will no doubt be controversial, but this one might stir up the comments more than others. From a technical standpoint the Core i7-6950X was a bit of a marvel. At the time of release it was by far the most powerful desktop CPU, and it didn’ t just smash productivity workloads but was also a very capable gaming processor.
In terms of performance it had no weakness, power consumption was very reasonable for a 10-core/20-thread CPU and while not the best overclocker, again for a 10-core part it was impressive. Sounds good so far, but the issue was the price.
After a reasonably long wait, the Core i7-6950X landed at an insane $1750 (!) . Enthusiasts were like, please Intel. We called it “The king of diminishing returns.”
Intel previous generation flagship had been released 2 years prior costing $1000. After a reasonably long wait, the Core i7-6950X landed at an insane $1750 (!) . Enthusiasts were like, please Intel. We called it “The king of diminishing returns.” The price gouging rubbed the PC tech community the wrong way and it became clear Intel was simply taking advantage of its market dominance (in a way, opening the door for AMD’s comeback, should they have a viable product) . This is what absense of competition leads to and the 6950X was a rude reminder of that.
Moving on from taking advantage of enthusiasts with deep pockets, Intel decided to confuse the hell out of us by releasing quad-core CPUs on their high-end desktop platform. Is this 2013 or what? Because that’s the last time we saw a 4-core CPU on Intel’s premium desktop platform, yet here we’ re thinking the arrival of Ryzen would force Intel to increase core counts in a meaningful way and they go and do this.
After the world’s tech media put their heads together and tried to work out why Kaby Lake-X was even a thing, now we have an even more confusing lake to navigate. Anyway, no one really worked out this riddle and from what we’ ve heard from retailers, it seems consumers didn’ t get it either.
Looking at Amazon’s CPU best sellers we found the Core i7-7740X in the 44th spot. The list is updated every hour, but damn, Amazon seems to be selling more AMD FX processors, ouch. We’re proud though to see the Core i7-7800X, 7820X and 7900X all ranked higher, so it’s good to see consumers are doing their homework.
Well yeah, come on, you knew this one was coming. Even the most hardened battle ready AMD fans have given up on this, admitted defeat, and moved on to rally behind Ryzen. From the release of the FX-8150 back in 2011 to the motherboard frying FX-9590 in 2014, the FX-series has sucked worse than any CPU we can remember in the last decade. From day one the FX series proved to be about as efficient as a hybrid era Honda powered F1, there were endless FX owners sitting back in lawn chairs waiting for their games to load.
Well yeah, come on, you knew this one was coming.
The only option here for AMD was to reduce prices so low they had lost sight of what it looked like to break even. You were better off buying a Core i3 from about 2013 onwards.
Next to the AMD FX series, the most heavily nominated worst CPU was the Intel Core i3-7350K and we have to admit we were hesitant to include this one. In terms of price vs. performance it makes no sense at all, even at its new $140 price. Even so in order to actually take advantage of the 7350K’s unlocked clock multiplier you need to purchase a more expensive Z-series motherboard and don’ t forget it also doesn’ t come with a cooler. A cooler adds at least $20 to the asking price, so were back at $160, and we still need a motherboard that supports overclocking.
Once you factor in all the additional costs you essentially end up with a really expensive dual-core that’s more than twice the price of the G4560 and not a great deal faster. Still, the Kaby Lake architecture is very good, so in terms of performance and efficiency the 7350K isn’ t bad. Perhaps the weakest choice of the 5 worst CPUs, it’s still hard to recommend this Core i3 with other better alternatives sitting right next to it.
Billed as a low powered 8-core CPU, the FX-8320E was anything but. Out of the box it used well over 50% more power than an equivalent Haswell-based Core i5 and was at best able to match it in productivity workloads. Then when it came to games the 8320E would get blasted by the Core i5-443, to cite an example, even when overclocked beyond 4.5 GHz.
The only saving grace was the Core i3-like asking price ($142) for the 8320E, though the FX-8370E that we’re focused on was going for almost $200. The E variant of FX processors was a desperate move in late 2014 to try and move inventory.
Looking back, if you invested in an FX-8370E for $194 in 2014 or the Core i5-4670K for $242, that extra $50 means that 3 years later in 2017 you’ d still have a capable gaming system that’s still not really in need of an upgrade. Meanwhile the FX-8370E would be plaguing you with horrible 1% low performance in many modern titles and you’ d be having a bad time.
We picked two AMD FX processors to rag on but really the FX-9590 and FX-8370E represent the entire series, AMD really soiled the bed on that one. Admittedly the Core i3-7350K is a sketchy pick, but with Kaby Lake offering zero improvement over Skylake in terms of IPC gains, Intel keeps using a rubbish TIM on their premium unlocked models, and the fact that it took them so long to offer another sub-$200 unlocked part…
Meanwhile, the Core i7-7740X and Core-i5 7640X, aka “Krappy Lake” are an obvious and well deserved choice for this list and we’ ll never forgive Intel for the Core i7-6950X pricing. Any review outlet that awarded both the i7-7740X and i7-6950X scores in excess of 90% probably need to have a long hard look at themselves, but hey, we all make mistakes.
If you happen to have a computer with an older CPU, maybe an FX processor, and you want to upgrade, then check out our new Upgrade My PC Please! series (the first episode goes live tomorrow) and we’ re set to give whoever you vote most deserving a $500 upgrade package tailored to their needs.

BT announces 'business platform as a service'

0

BT has said its new Personalised Compute Management System will allow businesses to speed up their digital transformation by accessing cloud-based business services globally.
Telecommunications provider BT has announced its new cloud-based “business-platform-as-a-service” offering, which is aimed at speeding up the time it takes businesses to go to market with digitised services.
BT said the new platform, labelled the BT Personalised Compute Management System (PCMS) , allows customers to access, purchase, and bring their own digital services to market within around 12 weeks.
It utilises BT’s “cloud of clouds” solution, which connects customers to cloud collaboration apps, security services, third-party datacentres, customer datacentres, and third-party cloud services including Cisco, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Oracle, HPE, Salesforce, Equinix, Google, and IBM Softlayer.
PCMS contains a global catalogue of services with localised sales channels, allowing customers to buy online in their own currency, contract terms, taxation laws, and language, BT explained.
The platform currently has more than 45 digital business support processes, including customer management, product management, user authentication, order management, and billing solutions.
“Users will gain access to ready-made business support processes and functions to enable them to sell, fulfil, and monetise their own portfolio of digital services, ” BT said.
“Customers wanting rapid entry into the cloud market will be able to resell BT’s existing digital ecosystem services such as Cloud Compute, Compute Storage, and Apps from BT available from a choice of 22 locations around the world.”
Businesses can choose to consume these services themselves, onsell them to their own customers, or cross-sell them to other PCMS users.
PCMS will be globally available in the last quarter of 2017, after being developed alongside BearingPoint, a management and technology consultancy firm.
According to BearingPoint Digital Ecosystem Management CEO Angus Ward, PCMS has combined his company’s expertise in digital business transformation with BT’s “skills in digital platform management”.
BT in May also took the wraps off its Dynamic Network Services portfolio comprising three offerings: Bandwidth on demand; on-demand virtual services; and on-demand software-defined wide-area networks (SD-WAN) .
The first stage enables customers to turn up and down the speeds they’re using at will under consumption-based pricing, BT said, which is aimed at aiding the increasing uptake of cloud solutions.
The second phase will see “purely virtual” products, cloud service nodes, and technologies launch by mid-2018, with such network services able to be switched on and off as and where needed by companies, and will be charged via hourly usage, BT told ZDNet.
The final piece of the puzzle involves provisioning on-demand virtual networks, with BT kicking off its SD-WAN suite with the release of Nokia’s Agile Connect product, to be joined by Cisco intelligent WAN (IWAN) products in the future.
BT said it is able to extend its virtual networks not only over its own infrastructure, but also over the top of any other carrier.
To match these new network offerings, BT said it is also focused on improving its security services.
BT’s Assure Cyber Platform makes use of both a computerised element, which uses learning algorithms to sort through the data and learn from it, in addition to a human element in order to combine creative attention to detail with the “relentless efficiency” of computers.

Red Sox couldn't bury Yankees under avalanche of Chris Sale starts

0

The Sox’s plan was to have their ace pitch in all three August series vs. the Yanks, but it wasn’t enough to keep the division rivals off their heels.
NEW YORK — It was Aug. 3, the day after a rainout at Fenway Park, and Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell was outlining his plans for arranging the starting rotation around an unusually high number of days off in the schedule.
“You look ahead, ” Farrell said, “and there’s three series against New York. Chris [Sale] is mapped out to be in every one of them.”
Farrell might as well have been wearing a pinkie ring, holding a cat on his lap and cackling fiendishly, for this was a plot straight out of the Dr. Evil playbook. The division-leading Red Sox would use one of the days off to give Chris Sale extra rest before an Aug. 8 start at Tampa Bay, then line up their ace to pitch in each of the three series that remained against the New York Yankees, their closest pursuer in the American League East.
Genius, right?
Well, not exactly.
Sale dominated the Yanks for seven innings and took a no-decision in a 10-inning, 3-2 Sox win on Aug. 13 in the Bronx. No shame in that, certainly. But he allowed four runs in seven innings of a 4-3 loss six days later at Fenway. And on Sunday night at Yankee Stadium, he gave up three solo homers — including back-to-back shots for the first time in his career — and lasted only 4⅓ innings in a 9-2 loss that shaved the division lead to 3½ games.
So much for burying the Yankees under an avalanche of Sale fastballs and sliders.
“We’ve got plenty of time left. Now is definitely not the time to panic, ” Sale said. “We know where we’ re at. We know what we need to do.”
Here’s where Sale is at: In his past six starts, including seven shutout innings last Tuesday night in Toronto, he has a 4.57 ERA. He has gotten knocked around twice by both the Yankees and Cleveland Indians, teams that are likely bound for the postseason. Once the clear-cut favorite to win the Cy Young Award, Sale now appears to be in a dead heat with Indians ace Corey Kluber.
And here’s where the Red Sox are at: After getting swept by the red-hot Baltimore Orioles and sweeping the last-place Toronto Blue Jays, they dropped three out of four games to the Yankees. They scored nine runs on 22 hits in the series and went 1-for-27 with runners in scoring position, continuing a season-long trend over 19 games against the Yanks in which they went 20-for-140 (.143) with runners on second or third base.
“It’s probably historic, ” Farrell said, “when you look at it.”
Fortunately for the Red Sox, they won’t have to see more of the Yankees during the regular season. The teams played 10 games in a span of 24 days but won’t face one another again unless they meet in the postseason.
It stands to reason, then, that this series was more important to the Yankees, who played with far greater urgency. Entering Sunday night, the Red Sox had an 87.8 percent chance of winning the AL East, according to FanGraphs, and those odds aren’t likely to change much after one loss.
But if Sale had overwhelmed the Yankees as the Red Sox envisioned when they aligned their rotation last month, the division would be all but wrapped up by now. Instead, the Yankees are still hanging around, just like the concern over whether Sale is fatigued or, even worse, headed for another September struggle.
“Don’t worry about me, ” Sale said. “I’m doing all right.”
But is he? For the second consecutive game against him, the Yankees ran up Sale’s pitch count early, making him throw 24 pitches in the first inning, 22 in the second and 36 in the fourth. They fouled off 26 of the 109 pitches he threw. Chase Headley ‘s third-inning homer came on an 0-2 pitch, only the fifth time that has happened to Sale in his career.
“Hung a breaking ball that Headley hit. Same thing with [Todd Frazier in the fourth inning] , ” Sale said. “Holliday hit a homer on a fastball. Just got to be better than that, especially knowing the ballpark we’re playing in. Just got to be better at executing two-strike pitches than I did tonight.”
Perhaps it was the familiarity of facing the Yankees three times in four weeks that doomed Sale?
“It could be, but at the same time, they’ve got to adjust to me just like I got to adjust to them, ” he said. “They were putting long at-bats together, fouling some pitches off, taking some good pitches. So, it was up to me to make an in-game adjustment, and clearly I didn’t.”
Or maybe the workload is catching up to Sale? After all, he leads the majors in innings (189 2/3) and strikeouts (270) and has thrown at least 100 pitches in all but three of his 27 starts.
“I feel real good, ” Sale said. “We’ve done a lot of things over the course of the year, even dating back to spring training, to get over this hump right here.”
The hump has tended to be larger in September. Since he became a full-time starter in 2012, Sale’s ERA in the last month of the season entering Sunday night was 3.86, nearly a full run higher than his 2.97 career mark.
“He’s set such a high bar for himself, not only this year, but throughout the course of his career and certainly this season, the way he’s pitched, ” Farrell said. “We’ve got a couple of off days that we’ll take advantage of to get him some extra rest.”
The Red Sox will hope that plan with Sale works better than the last one did.

Rapper Lil Wayne suffered from multiple seizures and was rushed to the hospital September 3, according to a report from TMZ.
The seizure occurred while Wayne was at his hotel room at The Westin on 909 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun Times. After being found unconscious, he was sent to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
TMZ reports that Wayne’s team tried to have him discharged from the hospital so that he could fly to Las Vegas for his concert at Drais Beachclub alongside Rae Sremmurd. However, doctors felt that it was too risky for him to fly as he had seizures while flying before. The Las Vegas show was then cancelled.
Lil Wayne, aka Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., has epilepsy and has had a long history of seizures. Here’s everything you need to know.

According to a report from TMZ, Wayne has suffered from seizures since childhood.
The publication reports that he quit drinking lean because of the seizures. Lean is a liquid drug cocktail made up predominantly of allergy medication promethazine and codeine cough syrup, addiction specialist Dr. Joel Nathan told Daily News.
The highly addictive drug was created in Houston, Texas and also goes by the names of Purple Drank and Sizzurp, the publication reports. It’s often mixed with Sprite and jolly ranchers to improve the taste. The drug is known to cause euphoria as well as drowsiness and in many cases seizures.

However, TMZ reports that Wayne drank a large amount of the drug cocktail in the hours leading up to multiple midair seizures in June 2016, according to witnesses close to him. The seizures caused his private jet to make two emergency landings in Omaha, Nebraska while flying from Milwaukee to California. After blacking out during the first emergency landing, Wayne refused medical treatment and suffered a second seizure within minutes of flying forcing the plane to land again. Wayne had to cancel his appearance at TAO nightclub in Las Vegas for a pre-UFC 200 party.
Representatives of Wayne said that the seizures were caused by Wayne failing to take his medication, according to TMZ. He went to a pharmacy in Milwaukee but they didn’ t have the medicine in stock. Daily News asked the representatives if the rapper ingested lean but they didn’ t respond.
Later in July 2016, the seizures were determined to be caused by doctors prescribing him the wrong balance of medication, the publication reports .

In October 2012, Wayne had to make an emergency landing in Texas after suffering seizure-like symptoms on his private jet, according to TMZ .
The rapper was transported to a local hospital and checked out at around 6 p.m.
Heavy reports that he was at the hospital for several hours, but doctors say that he was “doing better.”

In March 2013, Wayne suffered multiple seizures and was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A., as reported by TMZ. Hours after being released, his bodyguard found him unconscious on the floor in his room.
He was sent to the hospital again but he did not stabilize, the publication reported. He was taken to the ICU and placed under restraints as he was shaking uncontrollably and then placed in an induced coma. Drake, Chris Paul, Nicki Minaj, Birdman, and other artists as well as family came to visit, the publication reported.
Doctors found high amounts of codeine in his system, indicating that he went on a binge of lean after being released from the hospital. His stomach was pumped three times to get rid of the drug from his system. Around 6: 30 p.m. PT, he stabilized but was still under critical condition. He spent 6 days in ICU, the publication reports.
