Trump's wall: Planning starts now, construction in months Contact WND

0

NewsHubPlanning for a border wall to halt the flood of illegal aliens, including potential terrorists, entering the United States from Mexico begins immediately.
And construction in only months.
This is following President Donald Trump’s executive order on Wednesday that instructed federal managers to “immediately take the following steps to obtain complete operational control … of the southern border.”
“In accordance with existing law, including the Secure Fence Act and IIRIRA, take all appropriate steps to immediately plan, design, and construct a physical wall along the southern border, using appropriate materials and technology to most effectively achieve complete operational control of the southern border,” the order says.
The wall is among other immigration plans announced Wednesday by Trump, including the hiring of more federal law enforcement officers and penalties for cities refuse to enforce immigration laws.
The border wall order said federal officials must “identify and, to the extent permitted by law, allocate all sources of federal funds for the planning, designing, and constructing of a physical wall along the southern border” and “project and develop long-term funding requirements for the wall, including preparing congressional budget requests for the current and upcoming fiscal years.”
See “The Restitution of All Things” by WND CEO Joseph Farah, at the WND Superstore.
Also required in the order is the construction or allocation of “facilities to detain aliens at or near the land border with Mexico.”
And, yes, Mexico eventually will reimburse the United States for the expense, Trump confirmed.
In an interview with ABC News, Trump said the funds “ultimately … will come out of what’s happening with Mexico … and we will be in a form reimbursed by Mexico, which I’ve always said.”
Trump said U. S. tax dollars will get the work rolling.
“All it is, is we’ll be reimbursed at a later date from whatever transaction we make from Mexico,” he said. “I’m just telling you there will be a payment. It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form. What I’m doing is good for the United States. It’s also going to be good for Mexico. We want to have a very stable, very solid Mexico.”
At an address to federal law enforcement shortly after he signed the orders, Trump said, “Beginning today, the United States of America gets back its borders.”
He said the new emphasis on enforcing the nation’s laws will have multiple benefits, including saving lives on both sides of the border. In attendance at his speech were several family members of victims of illegal aliens.
The plan also will keep American weapons and cash from flowing into Mexico. During the Barack Obama administration, federal officials famously allowed ran a failed sting operation in which hundreds of weapons were released to unqualified purchasers who then fed them through a pipeline to drug cartels in Mexico.
The wall will also help Mexico by deterring illegal immigration from Central America, Trump said.
Trump cited the already existing authority from the Secure Fence Act of 2006 as well as the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996.
His order began: “Aliens who illegally enter the United States without inspection or admission present a significant threat to national security and public safety. Such aliens have not been identified or inspected by federal immigration officers to determine their admissibility to the United States. The recent surge of illegal immigration at the southern border with Mexico has placed a significant strain on federal resources and overwhelmed agencies charged with border security and immigration enforcement, as well as the local communities into which many of the aliens are placed.
“Transnational criminal organizations operate sophisticated drug- and human-trafficking networks and smuggling operations on both sides of the southern border, contributing to a significant increase in violent crime and United States deaths from dangerous drugs. Among those who illegally enter are those who seek to harm Americans through acts of terror or criminal conduct. Continued illegal immigration presents a clear and present danger to the interests of the United States.
“The purpose of this order is to direct executive departments and agencies (agencies) to deploy all lawful means to secure the nation’s southern border, to prevent further illegal immigration into the United States, and to repatriate illegal aliens swiftly, consistently, and humanely.”
The Wall Street Journal reported a former Mexican foreign minister reacted angrily to Trump’s order.
“This is an insult to those Mexican officials, to the president of Mexico and to all Mexicans,” said Jorge Castaneda, a former foreign minister. “It’s a way of making them negotiate under threat, under insults, and it should lead (Mexican) President (Enrique) Peña Nieto to cancel his trip next week.”
Mexican officials are scheduled to meet with Trump Jan. 31.
They have repeatedly expressed outrage over Trump’s dedication to following the law and clamping down on illegal aliens coming into the U. S. from Mexico, as he exhibited throughout his presidential campaign.

Scientist who fled Syria reacts to President Trump's refugee plans

0

NewsHubDETROIT (WXYZ) – President Donald Trump is expected to sign executive orders this week that include a temporary ban on most refugees and a suspension of visas from Syria and other predominately Muslim countries.
One of the most well-known Syrian refugees in the U. S., Dr. Refaai Hamo, spoke exclusively to 7 Action News about what he thinks of the new president’s plans.
Dr. Hamo’s story made national headlines after he was featured on Humans of New York as “The Scientist. ” He was later invited to President Obama’s State of the Union address and President Trump’s inauguration.
On the campaign trail, President Trump was critical of U. S. immigration rules. The new executive order would suspend the refugee program for at least four months.
“The American people know who they picked,” Hamo said in Arabic. “I know the president’s decision is one in the best interest of the U. S. I don’t think there’s anything to fear. ”
Dr. Hamo lost his wife and one of his daughters when bombs tore through his home in Syria. The scientist was one of about 12,000 Syrian refugees accepted into the U. S. to flee the devastation in his home country.
“I have my own research office now, and I’m just like any American,” Hamo said. “I am here to participate in the country’s economy and customs. I want to be a part of this country, and to contribute. ”
Dr. Hamo, who is rebuilding his life in Oakland County, said he hopes Trump doesn’t forget about the Syrian refugees.
“My hope from President Trump is the same hope I asked of President Obama,” he said. “Not to forget about us — the Syrians, the refugees. ”
The Associated Press obtained a copy of Trump’s draft, which said he would temporarily stop Syrians from entering the U. S. The order would also suspend all visas for people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen for at least 30 days.
While Dr. Hamo is concerned about the temporary ban for refugees, he said he respects President Trump and believes people in need will be allowed in the U. S. on a case-by-case basis.
“The Syrian people of all areas are in great, great need,” Hamo said. “The American public and President Obama have helped us greatly and opened their hearts. “

Marquee from Whisky a Go brings $43,000 at auction in Biddeford

0

NewsHubA bright neon piece of rock ‘n’ roll history, a marquee from the legendary Whisky a Go club in Los Angeles, sold for $43,000 at an auction in Biddeford on Wednesday evening.
Floyd Hartford, the auctioneer who owns Saco River Auction Co., said several people and representatives of Hollywood celebrities bid on the sign, including the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, but he wouldn’t know until Thursday who submitted the winning offer.
“It was a pretty hot item,” Hartford said.
Though the selling price was $43,000, Hartford said, by the time the buyer adds in taxes and surcharges, the price might end up being $45,000 or more.
The 13-foot-tall sign, with letters alight in bright pink, adorned the West Hollywood club in the 1980s and 1990s. It simply says “The Whisky.”

Asian shares advance after Dow hits 20,000

NewsHubJapanese and Hong Kong shares were up more than 1 percent on Thursday, taking their cues from the Dow Jones industrial average shooting past 20,000 after a volley of executive orders by President Donald Trump.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 1.58 percent, extending Wednesday’s rally of 1.43 percent. Across the Korean strait, the Kospi gained 0.67 percent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up 1.33 percent.
Mainland Chinese shares were higher. The Shanghai composite inched up 0.13 percent Shenzhen composite added 0.435 percent.
Markets in Australia, India, Taiwan and Vietnam are closed for bank holidays.
The new president cleared the way for two controversial pipelines on Tuesday, making it easier for TransCanada to build the Keystone XL pipeline and for Energy Transfer Partners to build the final portion of the Dakota Access pipeline.
Trump also signed executive orders on immigration on Wednesday, including one of border security and the intent to build a wall along the U. S. southern a border, and another to strengthen the enforcement of immigration laws.
The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 0.78 percent to close at 20,068.51, at an all-time record high. Optimism spilled over into the other two major indexes, with the S&P 500 advancing 0.8 percent to finish at a new record at 2,298.37 and the Nasdaq composite surging 0.99 percent to close at all-time high of 5,656.34.
Following Trump’s surprise presidential win, U. S. markets and the dollar had rallied on expectations of more fiscal spending, deregulation in various sectors, higher inflation and rising interest rates.
But one surprising reaction to the blue-chips index’s record high was the dollar, which slipped instead of gaining.
“Over the past few months we have seen strong correlations between the U. S. dollar, U. S. yields and U. S. stocks but today, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed above 20,000 for the first time, the greenback barely budged,” said Kathy Lien, managing director of FX strategy for BK Asset Management, in a note on Thursday.
Lien said the dollar is lagging because “Trump has been talking down the currency and his policies make foreign investors nervous” and “until the market comes to terms with the risk of benefits of Trump policy, the dollar may have a tough time mimicking the one way moves in stocks and bonds. ”
In other stock news, Japan Display soared 8.22 percent after it said it would start providing flexible liquid crystal display (LCD) panels for smartphones.
In currency markets, the greenback was trading weaker against a currency basket, at 99.84. The yen gained against the dollar at 113.37 while the Australian dollar traded at $0.757.
The sterling rose to a six-week high against the dollar on Wednesday on hopes that British Prime Minister Theresa May’s first meeting with U. S. President Donald Trump might pave the way for a bilateral trade deal, Reuters reported. The sterling was fetching $1.2641 during Asian hours.
On the commodities front, spot gold was under pressure as rising shares eroded the bullion’s safe haven appeal. Spot gold was trading at $1,199.45 an ounce down from levels above $1,217 seen earlier this week.
Brent futures were trading up 0.53 percent at $55.37 a barrel on Wednesday during Asian time, while U. S. crude futures gained 0.53 percent to trade at $53.03.
