Listeria fears prompted Pinnacle Foods to issue the voluntary recall Friday
The maker of Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes, waffles and French toast is recalling the popular breakfast fare amid fears of listeria contamination, according to CNN.com. The New Jersey based Pinnacle Foods issued the voluntary recall Friday night (May 5) for frozen products distributed in the U. S. and Mexico, the website reports.
According to CNN, the company said testing showed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes at a production plant. The recall doesn’t include dry mixes and syrups, CNN reports.
People usually become ill with listeriosis after eating contaminated food according to the Centers for Disease Control. The disease primarily affects pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, according to the CDC.
